So what you think i should do julian dont buy it i mean they are sold out everywhere so i dont know if ill get another opportunity to buy one for a decent price. i dont mind buying reference but if a tfiii gtx 580 is the same price and seems to be only a little bit used then i think its a good deal anyways

Well rulzo I`m more of a value seeker, so my preference might not really suit you, but what I can say is that the 480 isnt far behind a 580, and can be had for tremendous value right now. I mean the 480 has the same ROP count, 1 less tess unit, same memory etc.......so better than a 570 in my opinnion. Also the thing is that the 500 series are fetching a premium price because they are new, but what you gota think about is that kepler is not far off, and thats going to be much more powerfull than fermi, as its based on a smaller process so will be more efficient, less hot, smaller and therefore will have much more shders, cuda cores, tess unites and such all crammed onto the chip.

So with kepler not far off in mind, do you still think you should pay a premium for a 580, when you could have a 480 for much less money and get close to that performace, saving you s fortune in the process? The cards are gona be worth soo much less when kepler comes, at least you wont loose much on a 480 when the time comes to sell it.

Or do what I did and get 2 460 hawks lol

edit: to sum that up why pay a premium for hardware when its going to be totally out matched very soon when you can have near that performance for much less

from what ive read kepler aint coming to late q1 or early q2 2012 so thats a good what 6-8 months off. my plan was to buy a 580 now and when kepler comes out and prices drop buy another.. but the 480 is on everage it seems with a quick lookup of benches 10-15 fps behind a 580 and consumes a ton more power. If im always waiting for the next update and stuff then i will never have what i want...

i feel you on that, im not going to wait 7 months for a kepler, i mean, how much more powerful will it be? will it be worth selling dual 580's for one? i think not, i will wait until next batch of cards, i never buy anything right when it comes out, the smart thing to do is to wait for reviews and forums on how the cards match up. I think its a awesome time to buy a 580.

Go with the reference, put it under water. Or wait for Kepler.

i dont want to wait for anything ive already waited long enough lol im still waiting another month i have absoulutely nothing for gaming computer right now! jeez i thought deciding if i wanted to buy a used or new 580 was hard enough now we got the whole "wait for kepler" stuff coming, i appreciate your guys' info and stuff but i mean while im waiting for kepler lets wait for ivy bridge etc etc. I'm set on a 580 and if its so much better ill sell it and get a 680 but i doubt that since if the 580 follow the 480's they will be about $300 bucks when 680 lands.

Nope as long as you don't take off the warranty sticker. If you want to use the warranty then all you need to do is put it back how it was before with the stock heatsink.

If they can't find out, then you're good to go right?

If you want the 580 now and you can afford it you should buy it. If you keep waiting for the next best thing so that what you want will get a price drop you'll be stuck will older hardware (unless you don't mind) or you'll keep waiting and never buy anything lol.
