Which router?

And not necessarily. Network cards provide connectivity.

Well all wifi network cards are supposed to work with your wireless router.
If you're running 802.11g on your router you need a card that will support 802.11g. If your router is newer and runs 802.11n your router will most likely 99.9% of the time also support .11g, but you need to have a .11n card if you want to get the speed of a .11n connection. a(runs @ the same speed as .11g but very short range)>b>g>n

It won't in anyway help the speed of your internet, but some do perform better than others.

If you are a bit weird, and want to squeeze every single performance from your PC during online play, look at the Killer-Nic cards, which is stupidly expensive.

But if you just want a wireless card to connect to the wireless router, get any wireless card that is certified for Wireless N and you are good to go. The wireless antennae is more impt for connection speed and stability. Make sure your router is wireless N as well to pair with your Wireless N antennae for the best wireless performance.
