Radeon HD 6850 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560

Thread Starter
My Specs:
i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz
4gb memory
XFX Radeon HD 6850 1GB

My friends:
i7 2600k @ 3.4ghz
8gb memory
Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 1GB

I think our specs are relatively similar however my friend seems to get a lot more fps on his games than i do so i was just wondering what that is down to could anyone help/explain why? thank you!

A 560 is better than a 6850, but not enough to really be able to play any extra games/major settings.

Maybe he has his set at a lower setting?

Maybe he plays without vsync?

Make sure your settings match his and I would put money there would be little to NO difference. Possibly even better on your end.

i would say go for the 560. it performs about the same as ati's 5850 from last generation which was a beast, but the best part is that if you ever decide to SLI the 560 it can outperform just about anything, including 580, and way cheaper. I am actually about to buy a 560 myself, and eventually i am going to SLI it. EVGA backstop has 560s for 150$, and 560 TIs for 180.

Vsync means capping your frame rates to your monitor's refresh rate..it discards frames which cannot be displayed by your monitor..most common LCD's including mine have a refresh rate of 60Hz so if i enable vsync, my frame rates stay at a constant 60 unless my card can't output 60 in the first place.

When vsync is enabled, it prevents horizontal tearing that occurs on screen when frame rates much higher than what your monitor can display are produced. Its really annoying especially when your moving around quickly. Since CCC is useless when it comes to it, i use RadeonPro to set vsync on most of the games i play otherwise i get horrible tearing.

Also i don't think adding another 4gb of memory is gonna get you much more fps.

Which games are you talking about in which his card significantly beats yours? Because apart from your usual GPU killers like Crysis and Metro, you can pretty much play everything else at your resolution at max settings and a bit of AA thrown in depending on the game...i know i do. Is your card oc'ed?
