$750 or so laptop for school and a bit of gaming

What is your maximum budget?
about $770

What country are you in?
USA

What will be the uses of this laptop?
School and a bit of gaming

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
Lenovo is really nice, had one of their laptops a good 5 years.

What screen size do you require?
15.6 give or take one size

What screen resolution do you require?
1366 x 768 or a bit higher

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?
New

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet)
Doesn't need to be long, I plan on being near an outlet (would just like one I can move around and take to computer classes)

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?
Probably a little WoW WoTLK though, 3.3.5 on medium.
Some 2d games that I know would run on anything you spend more then $400 on nowadays.

What operating system do you need? (if any)
XP or Windows 7

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)
As long as it looks decent, black would be preferred
.
How much hard drive space do you need?
500+, 2 hard drive spaces would be REALLY nice as I have my old lenovo laptop with a 500gb sata right now.

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)
webcam, USB 3.0 would be nice, but not a requirement, just a plus.

And I'd like it to be from like, newegg if possible, bestbuy, or frys. something like that as I could either go check it out, or check out a bunch of reviews (as I like being cautious about my purchases for laptops)

I know it's over $770, but everything else is 1/2 power in the GPU department.

Mobility HD5870

I have that GPU and there are more or less current benchmarks in my sig.

Also I know what you mean about the GPU, I really wish they'd upgrade some of the laptop GPUs as the price went up, I was looking at

But would like some other peoples opinions.

I've heard the 5870m is about as powerful as a 5770 (which I have in my desktop build and am very pleased with)

...it's just $30 over, maybe no tax depending on your state and the shipping is free.

It's sooo much better than a GT 540m or 6650m... or worse yet, 6570m.

...eat noodles for a few weeks if you need to.

...and it is a HD5770 desktop card, just underclocked to 700MHz. I've OC'd mine back as high a 800HMz core and 1100MHz VRAM.

I have a lenovo y570 and i love it, plays most games at high medium settings as well.

I know these are both over your budget but they are awesome performers for the money. With a gt555m it will play most games without any problems.

Benchmarks for gt555m

This is the one i have with an i5 processor and a bluray drive.

This one has a i3 and regular dvd drive for a little cheaper

Edit: I forgot to add they both have usb 3.0

Also, what do you guys think about the new AMD A series laptops? All I've really heard are bad things about them so far, someone said their price would probably be almost half in a few months once the hype over them is gone.

$800 would be my absolute maxium I believe, thats if I could get all my classes in 2 days, avoid needing the new backpack for another 3 months, and bought daily bus tickets (I'm in Oregon going to Portland Community College if that helps with any taxes / prices)

Okay then... my mom just gave me her old college backpack she was using like 3 years ago, which means I'm up to an $800 limit

I would strongly recommend this laptop for 30 bucks extra. You can always earn 30 bucks but the laptop's GPU isn't easily upgradable.

Is there any chance I could play WoW 3.3.5 on medium settings on a laptop with intel graphics? That $800 laptop just went up in price as someone bought the apparent last one (I've got like 2 months before I get the pell grant and begin school) but I do a lot of research before buying anything about computers. Laptops are... a lot harder to research for gaming since most people don't buy them for that reason. I'm just looking for something that can handle WoW WoTLK, doesn't even have to be on high (Shadows will probably always be on low)

Asus G60Vx

fits everything perfectly except for the preferred brand

I know it's deactivated but maybe you can find it else where, but I linked it so you could see the specs at least.
