As far as animation, it's looking pretty good on that front.

For destruction, couldn't there just be a destruction map applied to each 3D model, that shows how much damage each area is able to take before breaking? I don't know much about these things so I could be totally off, but it seems perfectly feasible.

I don't know...I am getting a little tired of getting a game to have it look utterly amazing only to find out the game play is either nothing new, not done well, or lacking a decent story line. I'd prefer more focus on writing the game then the graffics.

Plus I am sure there a 100 engines in development that on par with this.

I guess I am getting old...I put personality and ability to cook over looks. At least when it comes to gaming.

Would full support of tesselation solve this "polygon" issue as well? The way I understand tesselation works is that it modifies the polygon count of any given object or model based on how far away from it you are. If tesselation is applied to an entire scene, wouldn't that allow for, say, 10 million polygons in front of you, and 2 million in the distance? Leaving you with a total of 12 million polygons at all times, no matter whats on the screen?

Unless they use a hybrid solution, voxel based static landscape/buildings, and use polygons for destruction and animation.

Certain games could use technology like this, but it leaves a very static environment. Games like Minecraft use sparse voxel octrees, Minecraft does it in a way that allows for insanely large worlds rather than use it in a way that allows for insanely detailed objects.

This is what would be required. So you end up with and end-product similar to the Atomontage Engine. This engine does largely the same thing as the "Unlimited Detail" demo, they just don't sell it/hype it as well.

Because most everyone here doesn't spend hundreds of dollars on graphics cards every year or two. But yeah, graphics aren't important.

When's the last time you dropped $200 on a plotline card? Or a character card?
