Also, they say that animation isnt possible. What if they made things like arms, torsos, and legs a solid 3d object and the 'joints' connecting them move based on a algorythm

This is neither Fake nor a Joke... But it will be completely useless as a game engine as you would need a horrendous amount of memory and hard disk space. Also I'm not sure if any of you guys noticed, but if you look at their videos, NONE of them have actual animation using voxels, This is what will kill the memory usage.

My bets, This will never see the light of mainstream gaming.

We use point caches for HEAVY animation all the time in film VFX. No reason this method couldn't do that as well. Filesizes are bigger though than rigged polygons...and I have a feeling the file size is already absurd for these demos.

Remember folks, nothing is free. If you see detailed stuff, it's because you're paying for it in some form.

this is insane news! this tech alone would make DX11's Tess OBSOLETE immediately if there is infinite polygons! but what about shaders? would all the polygons in shaders be obsolete too and would just have lots of low shaders on each atom making it look REALLY good? and how much power does this tech require? could my rig run it?

Notch wrote a great little blurb on these guys. He says the technology is by no means new, they are probably using spare voxel octrees, and that there are severe limitations to said technologies. In fact he also linked to several engines that had been made using the same technology.

He also said these guys were essentially snake oil salesmen, trying to raise funding by talking up their product and not mentioning any of the limitations of such a system.
