Its based entirely off of DotA and has been in private beta for some time now. I'm willing to bet that each team participating in the tourney has a good bit of experience with DotA 2 at this point.

A LOT of people care about DotA, its been out for so long now and has built a pretty huge fan base over the years.

That is 100% fabrication. There is no pricing information nor any kind of figures of the money spent to develop the game.

See my first response and no it is not out yet. The tourney begins Aug. 17th at GamesCon in Germany and that is when we will see gameplay and screenshots for the first time. A release date has not been set at this point.

I thought for a second I would explain why you are 100% wrong but I decided it wasn't worth my time to appease your troll craving.

lol wow...so wait....a bunch of dudes jumping on one another and trying to top one of them from running to the end of a field with a ball is a "sport" but playing a computer game againts hundreds of others isnt just because there isnt a physical man handling of one another? its just as exciting or it can be anyways....personally i love the arguments of sports nuts and computers nerds because i like to just bring up one thing to those "sports are manly rawr" type people....

knowing a players average running yards and how many times a team won the super bowl is the same as me knowing the weapon output of the death star and how many x-wing class fighters where there during the first Death Star run in Star Wars A New Hope...its pointless information that doesnt have any real world use.....other then bragging about it or talking about it with a select group of people....

calm down....dont be mad just because fantasy sports is D n D for sports junkies....

good attempt at trolling though, bravo

To me, sports aren't the same as what intellects defined it in a dictionary as. They don't consist of a group working together as a team to achieve a common purpose (or whatever that definition laid out by a previous poster was). It's attempting to best another in a form of physical exercise, whether it involves running or lifting. Hell, despite poker being the furthest thing from a sport, it's 10x closer to a sport than video games.

Why would I care about a players statistics? I watch some sports, but very little in comparison to how much I play it. Tracking player stats is almost as pathetic as watching broadcasted gameplay online. It's sad, really. That's time you could be using to learn how to make money, developing your body, or even practicing pickup lines...things that are actually useful in the real world. But then again, most gaming addicts don't live in the real world.

calm down....dont be mad just because fantasy sports is D n D for sports junkies....

D n D? Can you possibly reference a more obscure acronym?

I'm not trolling. I have a very serious problem with video games (despite my trolling with COD to the BF community). It's fine to play a few hours a week, but when it becomes your life, it's pathetic. My "father's" cousin came to visit us in America in 2005. He got my brother hooked on computer games (Might & Magic?) to the point where he's playing 6,7,8, and sometimes many more hours a night now (World of Warcraft). That's not normal, and it shows in your social life. Your "friends" are basement dwellers playing the same dorky game that's preventing you from getting laid.

This isn't a troll, and it's backed up by my previous posts (in the COD/BF discussion thread) where I've mentioned my stance on video games. It's fine if you play up to an hour a day (average) -- 7 hours a week -- because you are going to find time where you've got nothing better to do. However, are you really trying to tell me devoting your life to pixels on a screen isn't a tad bit sad? Couldn't that time be spent doing something that benefits your family, you, and/or the environment? Imagine if Einstein had spent his time trying to create the first television instead of theorizing about relativity...we'd have had TVs about 50 years earlier, but would have been dumber for it. Basically, what I'm saying is, there's something much more constructive you could be doing to further advance this planet. Sports, obviously, stress the importance of health & conditioning.

You know what my goal is? I want to become wealthy and raise awareness to animal abuse, especially that of dogs & cats, because I frequently have bouts of depression when seeing / hearing about animals being tortured and/or killed. My brother's goal? To play in that damn WoW tournament where they have announcers...along with my 2 best friends (who are just as bad as he is), who got him hooked on WoW [previously he played KalOnline which was similar]. They're super duper duper duper duper good!, but I'm really REALLY not jealous LOL. I just wish people could see how they live their lives, unable to socialize properly, suffering from aggression issues, and obviously, some of them become sociopaths who torture animals and murder. Hell, half the reports about teenagers committing murder show that they're obsessed with COD before going on their rampage (yea...yea...it's "biased").

Gimme a break.

You're making the same horrible, frat boy argument that never amounts to anything a lot of other people do. How you spend your leisure time could be framed to look insignificant or pathetic for almost anything except curing cancer or ending world hunger. But this isn't really about that. To play a video game for 8 hours a day and be sponsored and make 100k a year or to sit in a cubicle and make that money is all no different. It's obvious you have a serious problem when you have so much disdain for something so popular and pervasive already in many places.

You realize to make $100K, you have to be considered special (and I do consider them "special"). It's not a profession with unlimited potential and employees. You have to be the elite of the elite, otherwise your "career" will consist of making $20K a year and living off Ramen Noodles.

How is it pathetic to crusade for animal rights? Are you seriously saying video games are of the same importance as animals? Also, yes, I do have a "serious problem" because I don't let little snots get away with denying that 8+ hour "workdays" (if that's what playing video games is...) are not an addiction. Nice try baiting, son.

This isn't a tournament, it's marketing more than anything else.

It was like 16 pre-invited teams that received an alpha build of the game some time in advanced.

Hope the game has success afterwards, though.
