To me, sports aren't the same as what intellects defined it in a dictionary as. They don't consist of a group working together as a team to achieve a common purpose (or whatever that definition laid out by a previous poster was). It's attempting to best another in a form of physical exercise, whether it involves running or lifting. Hell, despite poker being the furthest thing from a sport, it's 10x closer to a sport than video games.
knowing a players average running yards and how many times a team won the super bowl is the same as me knowing the weapon output of the death star and how many x-wing class fighters where there during the first Death Star run in Star Wars A New Hope...its pointless information that doesnt have any real world use.....other then bragging about it or talking about it with a select group of people....
Why would I care about a players statistics? I watch some sports, but very little in comparison to how much I play it. Tracking player stats is almost as pathetic as watching broadcasted gameplay online. It's sad, really. That's time you could be using to learn how to make money, developing your body, or even practicing pickup lines...things that are actually useful in the real world. But then again, most gaming addicts don't live in the real world.
calm down....dont be mad just because fantasy sports is D n D for sports junkies....
D n D? Can you possibly reference a more obscure acronym?
good attempt at trolling though, bravo

He got my brother hooked on computer games (Might & Magic?) to the point where he's playing 6,7,8, and sometimes many more hours a night now (World of Warcraft). That's not normal, and it shows in your social life. Your "friends" are basement dwellers playing the same dorky game that's preventing you from getting laid.
This isn't a troll, and it's backed up by my previous posts (in the COD/BF discussion thread) where I've mentioned my stance on video games. It's fine if you play up to an hour a day (average) -- 7 hours a week -- because you are going to find time where you've got nothing better to do. However, are you really trying to tell me devoting your life to pixels on a screen isn't a tad bit sad? Couldn't that time be spent doing something that benefits your family, you, and/or the environment? Imagine if Einstein had spent his time trying to create the first television instead of theorizing about relativity...we'd have had TVs about 50 years earlier, but would have been dumber for it. Basically, what I'm saying is, there's something much more constructive you could be doing to further advance this planet. Sports, obviously, stress the importance of health & conditioning.
You know what my goal is? I want to become wealthy and raise awareness to animal abuse, especially that of dogs & cats, because I frequently have bouts of depression when seeing / hearing about animals being tortured and/or killed. My brother's goal? To play in that damn WoW tournament where they have announcers...along with my 2 best friends (who are just as bad as he is), who got him hooked on WoW [previously he played KalOnline which was similar]. They're super duper duper duper duper good!, but I'm really REALLY not jealous LOL. I just wish people could see how they live their lives, unable to socialize properly, suffering from aggression issues, and obviously, some of them become sociopaths who torture animals and murder. Hell, half the reports about teenagers committing murder show that they're obsessed with COD before going on their rampage (yea...yea...it's "biased").
Gimme a break.
ok well heres one thing i have to say about poker being considered more of a sport then video games...it takes the same amount of thinking and strategy to beat someone at a high stakes game of poker as it does to beat someone at a high stakes game of DoTa (or any really good RTS). You haver to be able to play the game, out think the other players, play the game out in your head, get into another players head and any small mistake could be the win or lose moment of the match/game.
Using your brain is just as "sports" like as using your muscles....
Just because someone plays video games more then you do doesnt mean that they cant socialize like everybody else.
Aggression issues.....really?! so football doesnt create aggression issues...i have seen clips of professional football and basketball plays punching refs because of a call......aggression much?
Gaming addicts dont live in the real world? Your just assuming that everyone who plays video games a lot is automatically in the "video game" world and doesnt interact outside?
People are just as likely to be anti social, angry, "living in their own worlds" at a Nascar race, football, basketball game or any other sport.....have you ever watched an highlights from world soccer? they kill people in the stands if the other team scores......at all the events i have ever been to for video game tournaments i have NEVER seen a kid stand up, and try and beat someone up because the other team won..and i have been all around the country. Yelling yes...but sports is so much worse...got to a bar during the world series or NBA play offs and you will see fist fights that you will never see at a gaming event.....
There are people that make millions of dollars a year knowing sports stats and learning sports strats and announcing games....so knowing and learning sports stats is just as viabale a career or life choice as me working in my current office job making 70k a year as a network system operations analyst. I devote my work life to looking at a pixel covered screen and watching numbers.....i would muchr ather watch little orcs and monster smash each otehr int he face and i dont consider it sad....at all....
Im a huge video game player, i play every night when i get home from work....i have gotten laid befre, as a matter of fact i have an extremely attractive girlfriend who i met....hey funny thing...WHILE GAMING. I have been practicing martial arts for the past 5 years and take care of my body. i have lost 35 pounds since january of this year and changed my diet. I got out fridays and saturdays like everyone else, and i still play video games....so everything you said above is wrong about video gamers. Of course there are extreme video gamers or people that dont have any will at having a life....but thats true about sports people as well or weight lifters...weight lifters are by far the worst...they insult otheres becuase they think their body is so perfect yet they have such big muslces they cant scratch the back of their necks...yea thats awesome really good life choice
Your statement above is basically saying that professional video gamers cant accomplish anything with their lives and just sit in basements and are losers? Im sorry but there are video game pros that make double my salary every year because of video games....you may not be jealous of them but you cant sit there and say that its not a sport or call them "losers" because of something they like to do.
And the whole "torturing animals" comment you made above....really? so these people (atleast some of them) torture animals for fun? hunting is a sport...and they shoot animals....all the time....where did that statement come from? you must be from PETA or one of those aniaml rights people that is so blind to the real world that you put animals before humans...yea..good life choices.
althought i do like about your above statement about helping animals...as i love dogs and cats and am a big shark person so bravo for wanting to help them.....i mean that.
everything else...see above...
