GTX 570 SOC or GTX 580 SOC

Thread Starter
I will be gaming on a 23" 1080p screen, want to upgrade for BF3 so Im stuck between these two cards. I can get the GTX 580 SOC'ed for $430 refurbished, and I can get the GTX 570 SOC'ed new for $370 or maybe lower. Its a $60 difference and I was wondering if it would be worth it, I know its not that much but if I can, Id rather save the $60 depending if the GTX 580 is overkill for 1080p or not. Which one do you guys think I should go with?

Thanks in advance!

for current games a single 570 SOC would do just fine, who knows for future games, such as BF3.

Does the 580 come with a good warranty? If so it's nice to have more power just incase. I went with 570's because it's cheaper and more achievable to SLI 2x 570's than to get 2x 580's.

580. but don't get the Superclocked version. It's extra price for extra "oomph" you can give it yourself.

Thanks man! I was also wondering, would the GTX 570 SOC be able to match up to a stock GTX 580? Ive heard there is only a 15% difference in performance between the two, is that true?

Since you don't mind going refurb on the 580, what about 2 gtx 480's? EVGA has them in b-stock for $220 a pop and 480 sli would easily beat a single 580.

I was thinking of going with a single high end card and then later on when the prices go down doing a SLI. Is it OK to buy refurbs?

Gigabyte SOC's tend to be lemons. IF you want a single video card, then I suggest you get a 570 or 580 with a non reference cooling/vrm/both design & manually overclock it yourself using MSI Afterburner.
