Ouestion about crossfire setup with HD 6870

Hi

I have an HIS radeon HD 6870. I think this winter or mayb next spring I might be getting an i5 2500k, and might sell my current mobo and purchase a 16x/16x model.

I want to crossfire 6870s then, but will mix n match work?

For instance, if I put an MSI Twin Frozr 6870 with an HIS 6870... would it work?

Thanks

Yes, it'll work fine.

As for x16/x16, your current board is x8/x8 if I'm not mistaken, which won't limit the cards at all.

oh ok im not really sure about what 8x/8x or 16x/16x even means... like does it run 50% slower with 8x/8x?

Theoretically x8 is half as fast as x16, but those cards won't take full advantage of an x8 slot, let alone an x16 slot.

In short: You wouldn't see a performance increase by buying a new board.

well my board has a retarded setup where its impossible to crossfire because of the way the SATA ports are laid out... the L points in first of all and the SATA 3gbps ports cover the back of 2nd pci e slot... which is stupid lol

thats the beauty of a 110 dollar p67 board.
