gaming build $3000 please advise

Thread Starter
Hello everyone. I'm trying to build a gaming pc, my budget is $3000 (excluding monitor, keyboard, mouse etc). I play every genre that exists but primarily fps. I will be playing on a 2560x1600 30" display (dell U3011). Please offer your opinions on my current build. I am concerned with future upgradability so motherboard and case selections would be especially welcome. Sound is also very important to me so if anyone has experience with the audio card I selected or can recommend another please go ahead.

Approximate Purchase Date: Early August

Budget Range: $2500-3000 (excluding monitor cost)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming and nothing else

Parts Preferences: Pretty set on GTX 580s and i7 2600k

Overclocking: Certainly

SLI or Crossfire: Yes

Monitor Resolution: 2560x 1660

Case: Corsair Obsidian 800D

Power Supply: 1000W Corsair 80 + Modular Power supply

GPUs : 2 Nvidia GTX 580s

Motherboard: Asrock Z68 Extreme4

CPU: Intel i7 2600k w/ Asetek zero-service liquid cooling

RAM: 8gb Patriot Division 2 X-treme Dual Channel DDR3

SSD: 2 64gb crucial C300 realSSD (Gonna run in Raid 0)

Audio: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI-E 7.1

HD: 3TB Seagate Barracuda XT

Couple of specific questions: Will this motherboard support the audio card, an internal wireless N wifi adapter (cant run wired in this location UNFORTUNATELY) and a third 580 if I add one in the future?

Any experience/thoughts on the dell U3011? I am also considering the hp zr30w.

Thanks

I would go for i5 2500k, gaming does not use hyperthreading. Use the extra $100 for porn.

Do you really need 3 gtx 580s?

Looks like my build...

3x 580 isn't completely absurd at a higher resolution like that as it would be at 1080p
Also I wouldn't RAID your SSD

Audio: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI-E 7.1

Lol, you clearly haven't done any research It's not even a real X-Fi.
Any X-Fi card is good but that one.

Get 3 6970's mainly because they are slightly faster than 3 GTX 580's and cheaper at the same time.

Also I wouldn't SLI your SSD
just wondering, how do you SLI ssd??

OT: 3 gtx 580's is a complete waste if you only play on 1 monitor even at that 3011U res. Two 580's are enough for any games at max settings with AA on with your current monitor.

As for the psu, a good 850w would be more than sufficient if you're NOT going for a 3rd 580, which is unnecessary for single monitor as said above.

As the other post has said, you don't need 2600k and its hyperthreading, games don't use hyperthreading and you might even see some negative effects in games with HT on.

The rest looks good!

btw, if you're going to overclock you need a good cooler and maintenance-free like the H100 which can be had for $130 I know someone is going to attest to this but it's maintenance-free so it's advantageous compared to custom water cooling kits.

Good luck and show us a build log

That comp is going to be beastin' it... I recommend a Intel 510 or 320 120gb ssd instead of those 2 in raid 0.

Get 3 U3011 then 2 GTX 590
$3000 on one 30 inch screen is waste of money.

Visual > Audio + Anything else.

Dunno, especially at that res, 4x 6950s would sound much better than 2x 580s. You'd end up spending around the same price as well

If not, perhaps three 6970s?
