I will be playing on a 2560x1600 30" display (dell U3011). Please offer your opinions on my current build. I am concerned with future upgradability so motherboard and case selections would be especially welcome. Sound is also very important to me so if anyone has experience with the audio card I selected or can recommend another please go ahead.

Power Supply: 1000W Corsair 80 + Modular Power supply

SSD: 2 64gb crucial C300 realSSD (Gonna run in Raid 0)

HD: 3TB Seagate Barracuda XT
I would change these.
PSU: I believe Silverstone makes a good 1000W PSU
SSD: As far as I know, RAID does not support TRIM yet. You are much better off with a ~128GB SSD, like the Crucial M4.
HDD: If you're only gaming, just stick with a 1TB drive. If you need more space, I'd recommend getting an external HDD

$3000 on one 30 inch screen is waste of money.

Visual > Audio + Anything else.
$3000 = 3 47" LCD TVs.

These days most of the top of the line graphic cards supports all various types of dolby formats and sounds.
For most people, onboard sound is just fine. It gives you positioning and sound for games. Some people want their audio amplified to get the best experience and not have weak, muddy sound.

I agree with many others who posted.

Different PSU, by all means stay away from corsair on these. Had 3 ax1200 fail to power my sig rig and all 3 of them blew. personal experience, passed down for you to make a decision. My ocz 1000w powers my rig and I would recommend one of the updated ocz PSU's (fully modular).

Larger ssd. These things are blazing fast already, raid is pointless. OS and games only. There is also an ssd windows 7 secrets thread around here somewhere. Search for it. It has great info for ssd perofrmance. Also, steam mover to move any games you don't play as often and preserve space for your ssd.

2 gtx 580's should be more than enough. It is plenty for many 3 monitor setups at 5760x1080 (I will be doing this at the end of the summer). I would take a look at the msi 580 lightning cards 1.5gb and 3gb cards available. Fantastic looking cards with a nice cooling solution and great overclocking available.

I like my AX 1200... and all my Corsair PSU's have been excellent...
and the Corsair HX1000, don't get as it's two 500 watt PSU's, maybe consider the newer HX1050?

Wel it would be easy enough to sit here and link up what I would build for $ 3,000.00, but I won't bore you with that as the real question here is what you would buy for $ 3,000.00

That being said
areal kwick run down

2600K Obviously
MIVE or UD7 Just the best overclocking boards availible for this platform
rediculously fast tight memory ... stay to 8GB IMO
REV 3 SSD boot drive is win on native 6GBS
Large magnetic storage ..... pron
I Like to 800 case plenty of room
Blue Ray is must have at 3K
Custom water for CPU, would air-cool vid cards (Do the research for the best solution and what fits nice into what ever case you get
I like the HP 30" TBH, the Dell Ultra Sharp is a close 2nd

As for vid cards .... hard to argue with 2x MSI Extreme Lightnings, that being said if you are not a bencher you would be fine off with vinillas and saving the cash, as top end will push the 3K budget

I am sure you will have a blast and if you have cold feet on the water side despite what has been said here the H100 is a solid unit that will give you decent temps

For 3k, I would consider triple monitor gaming as well. Might have to get it over time and with triple the monitor you currently have, it might actually be necessary for 3 of those 580's since that resoluition will be even higher Unless of course you get 3 different monitors. Just something to think about. I'm sure we can all come up with computer dream builds (mine is almost complete, maxwell will be my next dream machine ). Best suggestion out of all of them, browse newegg, look at different brands of each part, and do a crapton of research. Find parts you like, cable manage that bad boy, and make it look nice according to you. Every PC has a different style. Case says a lot of it. I hate that 800D case personally. Have some fun with the build, but do some research and pick out some nice parts. Since this is your first build, you still have some brand name preferences to figure out for yourself. Everyone learns theirs over time. I cant do corsair psu's nor can I do evga for anything. Your personal experiences will tell. Have fun with it and post up with build pics when its done.

1) get a i5 2500k instead.....games don't use hyperthreading (let along more than 2 cores).
2) you won't be using more than 4gigs of RAM
3) Get a better quality PSU

You could come up with some real slick systems for even half that much if you judiciously pick your parts. Try checking out IBuyPower for some good pre-made gaming systems if you want to get a feel for how much bang for your buck you can get.

Clearly you haven't played any recent games. Bad Company 2 has all of my cores at a constant 80%
