lol even SLI is a waste of money, personally I would go for GTX 570 2.5GB SLI, because you get a huge amount of VRAM plus the SLI, but not the pri£ey 580s (except the 3GBs )

OP I know you want the best single-GPU out there but SLI these 570s 2.5GB is the way to go I think.
For only $400 you have a card almost as powerful as the 580 but with more VRAM, that's what you will need at 2560p.

Thread Starter
hi everyone.. I am not thinking about 3 580s at the current time, as i stated, but possibly for future if necessary. However, the more research i do it seems if that times come im probly better off not going tri-sli but just upgrading to newer cards.

I've done a lot of reading on 2 580s in sli on my target resolution. It really is not overkill at all. Tomshardware and maximum pc has articles comparing fps for a selection of games at this resolution. If I'm spending this much on a monitor, I want to be able to get an above 60fps with max settings on it.

My main concern now is still motherboard selection. I'm concerned with heat between the 2 580s and my soundcard. Im still debating between my original asrock extreme 4 selection, the forum suggested asus maximus 4 and the gigabyte. I dont really care about the $150-175 dollar range between the three of them. I just want the best overlock, spacing and cooling for my components.

Even for 2560p resolution,gtx580 1.5gb is better than gtx570 2.5gb because the gtx580 is a faster chip.
Best bet would be to go with 2x pny gtx580 1.5gb, $840 for two cards.
Or, 2x evga gtx580 1.5gb, $880 for two cards.
