We examine AMD's next-generation GPU architecture, which looks more like a general-purpose vector processor than ever before. With ever increasing software support for GPU computing, are future GPUs set to become the new math coprocessors of yesteryear?

Very optimistic-sounding preview. I wish I new more about hardware architecture to form a more informed opinion about AMD's next-gen strategy. All I've read so far about the potential 7000 series has been good though. Hope it lives up to the hype.

The article is unsure if they are going to implement this on the 7000 series. My guess is probably, as they were talking about it during their presentation. My next graphic card will be AMD regardless anyway if they implement this.

One word: CUDA

I'm glad AMD GPU's will finally do more than just play games.

AMD Stream. It has had the same capabilities of Cuda for a long time. The hardware is there, they just need the software support.

SOUNDS a lot better.

Real world use today? not so much.

CUDA on the other hand..... too many examples to count. Here's 1 for ya.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/adobe-cs5-cuda-64-bit,2770.html

Read this carefully.

Want another example?

I converted a movie that is 1 hour and a half today to watch on my Ipod. The GPU usage was between 30% - 50%, it was going at 320FPS, and the whole thing was done in 6 minutes 30 seconds using Badaboom 2.0. And I even had HT OFF.

Your turn.

CUDA is properity and requires a Nvidia Graphics Card. I wound rather have one that is hardware neutral like OpenCL.
