Single slot Radeon 68xx cards?

Thread Starter
Hiya! Recently I was looking around Newegg to find a good graphics card for my new system, and I stumbled upon something interesting -

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131433

A Radeon 6850 with a single-slot form factor.

It seems to me like most graphics cards today are almost exclusively double slot form factor, but I think it would be neat to have one like this - does anybody know of any other such single-slot models? And furthermore, are there disadvantages to having a single slot card, like do they get hotter than their dual-slot counterparts? Looking at the differences between the one above and this one,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131374

it seems like the only difference is price and maybe a different mix of display output.

Thanks!
Coraima

That's the only single-slot 6850 I've seen.

And yes, single-slot cards will run hotter than their dual-slot brethren. They're mostly for people with tiny boards/cases that can't do dual-slot cards.

It will run hotter, also you'll dump 100% of the heat back into your case.

Hmmm... it seems as though your sig rig has the same case as I do. It would seem, then, that dumping most of the heat back into the case would be a good thing, considering the kind of airflow I'll have?

If not, maybe I'll just try and stack seven of them together to see if they'll melt themselves into one giant card

Not really worth it...for the price difference, you could buy a case that didn't have a problem accommodating a dual-slot card(s). Looks nice though, could buy 7 of them and BOINC like mad.

The effect wouldn't be as noticeable in a well ventilated case like the 932, but is there a particular reason you want to go single slot?

Afox has a single slot radeon 6850 as well. AFAIK a 6850 is the best you can get for a single slot.

To be entirely honest, nothing substantial - I just thought it would be neat to have something a little bit unique or unusual. Or, maybe, the promise of being able to put two or three of them together in a smaller space, but then I suppose I'd really have a heat crisis on my hands.

I can't seem to find them, but I'll keep looking - if there are others out there, I figure it would be good to keep them in mind in case I ever do build something with a tiny form factor with a good kick

One day, I will RULE 37726! Provided, of course, that I don't burn a hole in my hardwood floors in the process.
