Hello

Thread Starter
I have been lurking around and following post, I was just waiting until I finished my machine and had it running so I could join in and learn how to finally overclock and to do it on a machine that is capable of it.

I built myself a budget machine finally, being very patient "months". I was tired of using P4 machines, didn't have the money at the moment for a high end build but in the end I was able to build this machine @ 400US dollars. Some say it is old tech, compared to what I had, this is a huge improvement on all levels.

I have not overclocked a system before, all the machines I have built, just never had taken interest in it. This is the reason why I signed up here, to learn how, experience it with this machine.

I had taken some pictures of it, at least make this post a bit more interesting. As the machine sits with case and specs below. 400US dollars applies to case and hardware inside only.

P4 is great if all you do is play solitaire and check your email/FaceBook. But for folks like us, a P4 is only good as a home file server, or perhaps a dedicated router.

Speaking of P4's, what'd you do to your old P4? Re-purpose it for something, or keep it as a back up machine? Curious minds wanna know!

I loaded it with CentOS 6 Linux KDE , run it 24/7 as a DNS caching resolving name server, dedicated router. so yea you were pretty much right on with what I did... monitor everything also with it over my network, Nagios and all kinds of fun stuff. Over time, I have ended up with a few good P4 machines. As for the others, before I setup the CentOS machine, I would do various things like dedicated network sharing, test machines, but pretty much I have all this stable on the CentOS. I do however have another P4 up and running Windows but I can't think of anything really creative with it yet.

Any idea's would be great, I don't just wanna have a machine setup where the other machines can handle what it already does, I have been wanting to setup it up as something... just not sure yet.. Only reason it is up now is that it handles processes I need 24/7 but using low power instead of keeping my primary machine up which is a power hungry machine.

You could throw an old SoundBlaster Live 5.1 card in the Windows P4, and make it in to a home stereo system! If I remember correctly, Creative Labs came out with a PCI SoundBlaster that had a remote control, and a front panel LCD display. You could stuff something like that in to a very unique case, and have one hell of a stereo system (Depending on your speakers).

For a unique case idea, what about this?

Kinda small, but you can see where I'm going with this unique case idea.
