NOOB QUESTION: Core 1 running continuously

Thread Starter
Howdy.

I have a q6600 running Windows 7, watercooled, and Core 1 is running continuously (like 40% or above) while idle. Even when I'm not connected to the internet and I've turned off all background programs (steam, AVG, whatever), Core 1 will be humming along while the other 3 are chilling at 0~3%.

This is a new phenomena, and while it hasn't really affected my performance much, I don't like the thought of some background program sapping my precious frames.

Any suggestions?

Just the AllCPUmeter gadget, but now that you ask, I checked in Core Temp as well as Windows 7 built-in Resources Monitor.

dont forget to check 'show processes from all users'

i have a feeling this is a temporary thing, he might've upgraded windows or something and trustedinstaller is sitting there sorting something out for 10 minutes

Hmmm...Resource Monitor reports something called "Deferred Procedure Calls and Interrupt Service Routines" as using an average of 17% of core 1 (well, "core 0" but whatever).

What is that?

Sorry for taking so long to reply.

I needed to burn a disc, and I realized that my disc drive was not being detected; so I opened up my case, made sure the SATA cables were attached correctly, and then powered back up...and not only was the disc drive recognized, but the "System Interrupt" process has disappeared!

It's only been a few minutes, but I'm hopeful. I'll be back with a full update.

Any ideas why system interrupt would occur with a jiggly SATA cable?
