Look, if you are serious forget the 2600k, get REAL watercooling like a custom loop. You could easily get that 980X up to 4.7-4.8.

Oh come on. You buy a 1000 dollar CPU but you're too scared to put it under water and OC it like it's meant to be OCd?

I believe I've seen benchmarks which put the 980X head to head with a 2600K and the difference comes out as a wash. I would hang onto the 980X till it finally quits, frankly.
