One 580 will run any game you throw at it. SLI 580's is overkill. Sure it'll be nice, but why not utilize them with a couple extra monitors to really experience the game! cool.gif

I mean, when I was running a single PNY 580 there wasn't a game I couldn't run with full eye candy and above decent FPS. Metro 2033 was 50ish avg with 32xAA and 16xAF + everything else maxed. BC2 which is my main game was like 90-120fps. All at 1080.

I suppose it's future proofing, but right now I personally don't see a point of getting a second 580 for 1080. Is there any games you actually struggle with?

I've got my two DCUII 580's, but honestly I've never even had them in SLI lol. I lent one to a friend for the summer, and I was using the other one but now I've had to RMA it so I'm using a 560 Ti and I've had no complaints. I have two 580's because I'm planning/waiting on getting my 30" 2560x1600 (funding is slow ninja.gif ).

Essentially what I was saying.

If you have the money to buy a new 580 right now, I'd see if you can scrape together money for a second monitor if that's what you like or see if you can manage a bigger resolution single monitor.

I would do this but I am planning on getting a 3D monitor soon and my budget would only allow a new psu, 3d monitor, and a second gtx 580. My question now is what would be a good PSU to go in line with this. At the moment I have an OCZ gamexstream 750w PSU and I doubt this would be good enough for 2x 580 GTX.

A corsair HX850 will power those pretty well, but you'd almost a tad tight on power. Hardly though.

Are you certain this would be good enough with everything currently overclocked?

I was thinking of something like this:

The model up from that one was actually the one I was personally considering, just because I wanted to be future proof safe... but when I asked some of the pro's in the PSU department a few months ago, before I went SLI, about what PSU I'd need (currently have a HX650) they said I could get away with an 850w and they questioned me why I wanted 1kw+.

If you can afford the 1kw go for it. Again though, I'd suggest looking into more monitors or something to really get some use out of that second 580...or at least pick the second one up used for ~$350 to save some coin.

Do'nt worry about overkill, when you start to game in stereoscopic 3d you will need your fps overkill.
Thing to note....
3dvision is the only stereoscopic software that has sli, tridef,iz3d do'nt do sli or crossfire.

You may find bottlenecks with the cpu with stupid games like nfs,gta4 in 3d, heck i usually max out games one way or another for 3d the best way i can but some games are so horribly coded that 2 cores are flat out and gpu sits at around 20-30fp% usage and 20-30fps.
There's only a few games that come along that run like dogcrap in 3d and there usually console ports.

I plan to go GTX 580 Sli with my CPU at stock at 5670x1080 and I doubt I will even bottleneck those cards.
