Crossfire 6950's Flashed to 6970's?

Thread Starter
Hi, i might be buying a HIS 6950 in a week, if i did this, and it was a stock one, could i flash it to a 6970, overclock it to same speeds then later on buy a second one and run them both off a Antec Earthwatts 750w?, Just to be clear, the "most" impotent part is that i could defiantly flash it and overclock with this brand?

Heres a link, but im not getting it for here (its $250 in the link, im paying $230!) - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=17801

Thanks Heaps

Only some reference 6950s unlock. The card you linked to isn't reference, not a reference PCB either so probably won't unlock. Infact it looks like a pretty poor cooler too, I wouldn't buy it.

Also bumping your thread after 20 minutes is a no-no. You've got to wait 24 hours before bumping.

Pretty much all of the reference cards unlock.

That cooler and card def looks like a revised pcb, most likely with unlocking disabled.

Ive heard you cant just flash it to a 6970 as the ram is different, so you must unlock the shaders and then the 6950 ram can actualy be overclocked to rediculous speeds so ive read

DO NOT FLASH TO HD6970 BIOS
DO NOT FLASH TO HD6970 BIOS

it will mess with memory timmings and voltage since they are different memory chips on the 6950 and 6970.

What you can do is: unlock the shaders only, it will maintain the stock settings sides from the shaders unlock, after that you overclock to hd 6970 speeds or even more.

Got proof to prove your statement that 6970 bios wrecks cards??

Of the four my friend has, only one unlocked. That's what I based my comment on.

Do they need to proved proof? No, they're only trying to help the guy out, so he doesn't mess up his card. You guys are just here to start arguments.

It's misinformation w/o proof. People who go around warning about this because they read a thread about and are just repeating it.
