The Corsair HX650 makes no noise at all, and I'm sure it's cheaper than your powersupply.

The PSU is designed to turn on/off if the PSU temperatures are not over a certain reading. I guess that sometimes screws stuff up.

You just have a faulty unit, I've had a X-Series 560W PSU for a couple of months now (gave the computer away) and it is barely audible at all, since you're just running a HTPC you'll get even less noise if you went for the fan-less 400W models. I'm planning on going with the same power supply for my new build, if they were not a great company I wouldn't buy another one you know. wink.gif
