In need of a new phone!

Thread Starter
I am finally eligible for a upgrade from verizon and am in the market for a smart phone.

Really don't have any preferences to be honest, will go with the iPhone if people still think it's the best out there? I have an iPod touch so I would be familiar with it but also wouldn't mind trying something new.

To be honest I really don't know enough to even compare most of these phones to figure out which one I would like. I am about 2 hours from a verizon store so I have to purchase online.

What would you guys suggest as a good smartphone for a college student.
Price is not a big concern so let me know what are some of the nicest ones out there.

Thanks a bunch. biggrin.gif

You can get a Motorola Droid 3 which has a physical keyboard, as well as a dual-core OMAP4 processor. If you're in a 4G area, an HTC Thunderbolt or Samsung Droid Charge will fit you well.

Thanks for the quick responses. Would I benefit from getting a HTC thunderbolt even if I am not in a 4G area?

I would suggest the iPhone or the Samsung Galaxy s2, you can always go to the stores and try them out before you buy.

Galaxy S2 *supposedly* releases August 12th on the Verizon network, with the Droid Bionic delayed until some time in September, it'll be your best bet.

You may want to seriously consider a dual-core phone even if it's not 4G.

LG Optimus 2x (P990) if you want a huge screen, fast processor and do whatever you'd like it to do. It has a hdmi connector so you can easily show pics and whatnot on a tv supporting hdmi.

if you just want a phone that does the basics, no dual cpu or anything fancy like that, I'd go with the LG Optimus One (P500), a friend of mine recently bought it and I'm really fascinated by how much quality you get for a very low price, this one doesn't look quite as good as the p990, but if you don't very often use your phone and you don't care about showing off with it or anything, this is a really great simple phone, running android 2.2 iirc.

No problem. The TBolt will just operate under 3G speeds when you're not in a 4G location.

But yeah, forgot about the Galaxy S II. It will be released sometime August across multiple carriers under different names. If you could hold out a week or two, I suggest you wait for the SGS II.

I love how you totally ignored the OP. He said Verizon, not any other carrier.
