Does anyone know if it's possible to unlock the other remaining shader cluster that Nvidia has disabled?

Will someone be able to find it through the BIOS with a hex editor? or is it confirmed that it is lasered cut?

I can't find any articles giving proof that it has been lasered off, I do believe it's disabled in the BIOS, but no one has been able to find it though a hex editor.

They disabled it because of the heat, but I guees Nvidia never thought about aftermarket coolers or W/C

Because shaders are permanently disabled (laser cut or something like that)..

Extra 32 shader units cannot be activated via BIOS flash to GTX580..

I have heard that people have tested GTX480 with 580 BIOS,card does work but no extra shader joy as performance remain the same..

@KingT, it says on the quote that, CL3P20 has flashed a GTX580 with a GTX480 BIOS, and that Power Redulation changed drastically on the GTX580 afterwards. (Doesn't mean anything to unlocking a 480 with it's extra shader cluster)

The GTX580's GPU is different to a GTX480 GPU, maybe that's why it didn't work.

The main reason i'm guessing is because of thermal issues. Remember this card already was one of the hottest cards where load temps by defaults were 91C...
This is the threshold of safety and would need a newer cooler to help calm these nuclear reactors...
Hence, the vapor chamber cooling system was introduced with the gtx 580, and unlocked cores with optimizations everywhere...

the gtx 580 is your answer... to unlock the cores on that generation, would be catastrophic...
