need help regarding gtx 580 sli or not

Thread Starter
hey guys i have finally convinced myself to buy a gtx 580, before i was thinking of waiting for 600 series but heard its delayed for another 8-9 months ,so guys i have a couple of questions for my pc's future . my current setup is

q6600 3.0
9800 gtx+ (sli)
4 gigs of ram
p7n platinum mobo
CM real power pro 750w psu

i was thinking of keeping one 9800 gtx+ for physx should i keep it or sell it??
and what about my setup will it bottleneck my 580 when playing high end games in 3d vision??? if it does
what would be the expected price of ivy bridge in comparison to 2600k coz later in 2-3 months i will buy one if it bottlenecks... and may be another gtx580

thanks guys waiting for your replies....

I would keep the 9800GTX because it would do decently for physx, but that is if you plan on actually playing games that use physx.

I think your CPU is going to bottleneck your 580, but you have to remember you are probably going to want to upgrade your main system soon, so you can use the 580 on the next system.

but I know for a fact that a 6600 WILL bottleneck like crazy with SLI 580s, it just isn't fast enough.

My CPU bottlenecks my 580 on a few games, just the CPU intensive ones though, mainly Grid.

are you looking to future proof or do you want best bang for your buck right now. If you want future proof, go with the 580 but do not keep the 9800 for physx. Your 580 is more than enough powerful to handle today's games, and that will bring it down. Processing power of the 9800 is slower than the 580. Its going to take away from the 580 and do you no good. If your looking for best bang for your buck now. Try 460 (sli) or 560(sli). The 460's are a tad fater than a 580 and 560's are slightly less than a 590. Bottleneck may occur with your cpu, upgrading to SB is a wise idea. I wouldn't wait for IB imo

It's been mentioned, but I'd wait until you upgrade to SB/IB to get new video cards.

Yeah definitely upgrade your CPU to Sandy bridge at least... You can get a good deal at Fry's (here in the US)... a 2500K and motherboard for $200...

Physx is a joke, not worth having. One powerful card like a gtx480 can handle Mafia 2 fully maxed out. 90% of all games don't use physx anyway.
