Looking for ~$150 Headphones

Thread Starter
Hey everyone,

I really can't decide between Audio-Technica ATH-M50 or the Ad700's.

I know the AD700's are cheaper but I'm not sure on the difference in quality. If anyone has any other suggestions let me know. I will mostly be gaming (BF3, Wow) but listening to music while I work, so I kind of want best of both worlds. Thanks.

This is what I would recommend. Better bass than any of the AT headphones in the price range.

The ultrasone 550 looks good. I'm not really familiar with audio brands but will this provide good durability as well? Thanks for the suggestions!

If you will mostly be gaming, you will want headphones with a wide soundstage to give you excellent positional audio. Open cans usually are better at this can closed cans, so between the AD700's, which are open, and the M50's, which are closed, I would recommend the AD700's for your needs. Now, the Ultrasone PRO 550 is another good suggestion. They're closed cans, but they have this technology called S-Logic that mimics the sound of open cans, so the soundstage is pretty wide. Since they're closed, they also provide some good bass, so you sort of get the best of both worlds with these headphones. And Ultrasone is a very good brand. Right up there with Audio Technica, Sennheiser, and Beyerdynamic. Their products will hold up.

So if you want to spend less, go with the AD700. If you have a little more money to spend, then get the PRO 550's.

The PRO 550 is a durable headphone. I own one and I've dropped it several times already. It still sounds just as great as it did when it was new (maybe even better due to burn-in).

From my experience, the Ultrasone PRO550 gives you the sound stage that is important for gaming and the bass that you want for your music. I'm much more satisfied with this headphone than almost all the other headphones I've heard/owned.
