Need help on a 300-400 build - Page 2

2x2GB of DDR3-1333 will SEVERELY BOTTLENECK an AMD APU setup
(This is due to both CPU & GPU using that bandwidth - you want faster RAM for an AMD APU setup)

EDIT: Saw you already have case, drives, PSU.... Am3+ may be ideal. Anyways, two very quick overclockable AM3+ builds:

$300 build:
Phenom II x4 925 OEM + Thermaltake Contac 30 - $115 shipped

- $60 shipped, $50 AR [Amazon] (no wait rebate! 9 day return for extra $2 deducted from check)
2x2GB DDR3-1600 - $32 shipped
Sapphire Vapor-X HD 6770 - $120, $100 AR (no wait rebate! 9 day return for extra $2 deducted from check)
Newegg NEWCUSTOMER10 code - $10 off
Total initial cost: $317 shipped
Total cost after 9 days: $291 shipped

$400 build:
Phenom II x4 925 OEM + Thermaltake Contac 30 - $115 shipped
ASUS M5A97 - $90 shipped
2x4GB DDR3-1600 - $50 shipped (Shellshocker deal)
ASUS GTX460 DirectCU - $165 shipped, $135 AR (no wait rebate! 9 day return for extra $2 deducted from check)
Superbiiz promo code ABCDEFG - 10% ($9) off
Newegg new customer promo code NEWCUSTOMER10 - $10 off
Total initial cost: $401 shipped
Total cost after 9 days: $373 shipped

You may want to test your luck with a recertified graphics card, the prices are lower but you are taking your chances due to shorter warranty among other things

A GTX 460 is significantly better than a 6770 in case you need more reason to talk your friend into spending another $100. The M5A97 is also even more FX CPU ready than the lower cost 760G counterpart, and may also be better for overclocking.

just curious, couldnt you just use the 300 dollar build and replace the 6770 to gtx 460? if he wants to have more graphic power but keep cost down?

It would bring the build cost over $300 but mix-n-match is a definite possibility.

That's nice but Conzilla is in the United States, so it doesn't really apply.

xd had the best build so far, I think. However as a "boss" he might want to ask for a raise if $300 is pushing his budget.

Seriously. $300 doesn't even cover a high end video card these days.
