AMD setup Feedback

Thread Starter
hello all, i am brand new to this site and just found it. i built a computer online and would like some feedback on anything you have to offer. I dont need to be told that im an idiot. if you disagree with something that ive done simply state what, why, and how you would have handled it. thank you all very much. My set up is as follows. just to put this out there. i already know 4GB of Ram is low for this type of computer. i made a mistake that i am working right now with switching them out. Im also curious about the motherboard. its a lowerpriced generic one and im wondering if it supports dual graphics cards but cant find the info in the specs. maybe some of you know the model and can help. once again. thank you very much.

Hello kunowscott, and welcome to OCN! First off, your motherboard, (which is not really generic, Gigabyte is a good brand) will not support crossfire. There is only one PCI x16 slot that will accomodate a GPU, the other slot is only x4 (only suitable for sound cards, raid cards, and things like that). You can check out more specs here if you would like. You never stated what you were going to use this pc for, but a single 6870 should be fine for most people's needs. If you needed crossfire, then a good alternative to that motherboard would be something like this. Expect to shell out like 30 more bucks for a crossfire enabled mobo. Good luck mate!

EDIT: If you have any other questions about your rig, feel free to ask, we will do our best to help you! As for the rest of the components, looks like a solid build. 1100T, Level 10GT corsair dominator RAM and a 6870 is a sold upper midrange computer. Have fun, and keep stopping by!

I guess my question would be why are you spending $300 on a case and not building an intel-based rig? You just want the 6-cores specifically or haven't thought about a 2600K?

My next thought would be the same as above, the mobo is kind of low-end and limits your options for OC and/or doubling up on vid cards.

You can run dual GPU's-the 2nd will run on 4x bandwith which will lower performance a little. The 6870 GPU will perform fine on just about any single monitor. The only reason you would need more is if you decided to go to a multiple monitor set-up in gaming.4GB of RAM is fine unless you use photoshop for instance.Your biggest mistake was buying a pre-built system, but I understand not everyone feels comfortable enough to build your own.The extra-cooling seems a bit overkill,as is the case.Overall it should perform fine.I would have also included a SSD Boot drive for that budget. The PSU looks to be dubious as well,do you have a link to the brand/model used?

ok so, ya im dumb and should have explained a little more. I customized it myself on a site like ibuypower or something like that and then individually ordered all my parts to avoid being ripped off and keeping warranties actually valid. I will be using my computer for gaming and watching movies and things like that, FPS, WoW, Drunken Flight Sims, etc. I wanted something that would have a good solid above 70FPS no matter what. I actually changed out my RAM for the 8GB Corsair. I also upgraded the MOBO for $13 that is crossfire capable. not sure on the models and such. just upgraded them. this is literally the first computer i ever built. Also to comment about the overkill. I had a friend that religiously built his own computer for years then all of a sudden his case was too small for the motherboards he wanted.... blah blah blah... long story short, and aside from the fact that the LVL 10 looks like some **** I would expect and Alien pop out his face at me, I wanted my computer all around to be able to keep up with the quickly advancing technology. About the processor, i like AMD, flat out. I figured why not buy the best one they make. hopefully this gets you guys in a better perspective and are able to provide more feedback. also I cant afford a super computer right now, but i think this will get me where i want to be as of now and still be able to build onto... i guess getting a higher end MoBo would have been a better step but i will see how it performs then see what this site has to say with preference that is in my budget. i love the name of this place... Overclock.net... ya, i can trust that lol
