[DT] Battlefield 3 Will Probably Have An Online Pass Says Developer. - Page 5

This is ok with me as far as I am concerned.

They are trying to see some income from the used game market, doesn't affect PC users at all pretty much.

Since PC gamers primarily buy their games new, does this effect us at all?

Nope, that's just an easy way to avoid stress. Why worry about things that one can't change? Even if there's hundreds or thousands complaining, we already know petitions are pretty much pointless when it comes to the video game industry (mostly because people will buy it anyway: see MW2 boycott).

If we're talking about areas outside of gaming where petitions actually matter - then that's a whole other story.

This ONLY affects console gamers. YET, I'll bet a penny to a pound that we also have the same crap on our PC boxed copies, despite the fact that it's well known they're going to lock your game to an online account forever.

Server excuse = One copy sold on the console can be used by ONE person at a time. Therefore the initial cost should cover their time spent online. If they happen to sell that to someone else, EA ALREADY have the money to cover the costs. Letting a new PSN account or XBL account onto the game costs nothing, barely. It's a case of "oh, here's a new PSN account. Let's open a stats slot for them". That's it. That's STILL only ONE person playing that copy at ANY given time.

When. WHEN will legislators pull their heads from their arses and start to protect the CONSUMER and their rights?

We have a right to trade in games and publishers have no rights to nerf our products. That's like selling a brand new car to someone and the manufacturer initiating a killswitch that stops the engine from starting, then asking you a percentage of the cost of a new car to activate it again.

If that was happening with cars, people would be in uproar. But no, we get people like this thread going "oh wells, won't affect mes cuz imma buying it new!" Sheer idiocy.
Blizzard and Valve do the same BS of locking cdkeys so its not like EA invented locking cd keys.

Also this effects console gamers not pc gamers, while the whole vast server expenses is probably BS, EA doesnt recieve revenue for used games sales which is a huge part of console industry. I would rather have money in DICE hands who provides a good product rather than Gamestop who does nothing.

Also cars also make money of repairs, part replacement and other after sale support.

It seems on OCN whenever there is some news published about a game all I see is boycotting or not buying no matter how petty the reason is. Diablo 3 no mods, Bf3 no steam, skyrim no dx11 etc etc, in the end they always buy it.

This only affects console users - PC gamers haven't really been able to play pre-used games online for quite some time now.

This, how do they prevent pirates to abuse the system? (I'm sure they will find a way, but intersting question in my eyes anyways)

Agree... it's greedy bullcrap.
