SLI 560 ti reference with non reference question

this is the first one, and I am eventually going to buy another 560 ti.

the questions are of compatibility. I understand that since i bought the cheapest one, I wont be doing much overclocking.

If i get a nicer non - reference model would it be pointless to get a nice overclock on that card alone, or do they have to be the same clock speeds?

also, would it make sense to get the second card in a 2gb format?

they will be running in x8/x8 (unfortunately, motherboard advertised x16,x8 but not when sli apparently)

The 2 cards in SLI must run at the same speed. If they have different clocks, the higher one will downclock to match the lower one. So, it is pointless to have a high overclocking on just one card.

And, similarly, having 2GB on just 1 card is a waste. The extra 1GB will not be used. So, it does not make sense to get a 2GB card to go with a 1GB card.

it's the cheapest one i can find new. i am kind of regretting not geting the back stock evga FPB, its 179.99 but i duno if they charge shipping. I basically traded a better cooler and a way higher overclock for a lifetime waranty.

either way, i would assume that even 2 of these sparkle cards will smash a 580 in just about anything.

cheapest, i meant on amazon. it is 194.49, no tax, free shipping.

I agree with microman it may clock better then even a real expensive one,you never know.

i read that there are weaker transistors or regulators or capicitors... something. something not as suited to handling overclocked heat than on the non-reference designs..

any way as i said, 2 of these should kick serious ass.

i just hope the one of them will keep up with the performance of the 5850 i had before. that thing was a masterpiece.
