[NV]Voltage Change 280.19 Drivers? Nvidia Rep Explains

Quick update on the changes in the way the voltages are being reported in GPU utilities. This is not a bug and actually corrects the way the voltage is communicated to 3rd party GPU utilities. The older drivers (pre-R280) had a couple bugs which didn't round the voltages in the Perf and CVB tables to the board values in the SW caches of the Perf and CVB tables. When those values were actually applied to the HW, they were rounded up to the correct board values. The new 280.19 driver fixed that issue to make sure that the code only cached the true board voltages. However, in both cases the values which are applied to the GPU are the same so the only difference is the voltage that is displayed to the user. The actual GPU voltage has not changed from 275.50 to 280.19. We have verified this ourselves.

TBH i have not seen any voltage changes or anything like with my 590 or 580 in other rig.

Mods you can also move this if you don't consider this to be news, Official statement so i thought it would help clear things up.

Update From Nvidia Rep

After discussing the changes in the GPU performance mode transitions with the software team, we have determined the behavior of the NVIDA GPUs with the latest R280.19 drivers to be working as intended. NVIDIA display drivers before R280.19 were slow to respond to GPU utilization changes and as a result would negatively affect GPU performance. With the changes in the new R280.19 drivers, the GPU will now be able to react faster to any sudden changes in GPU usage which can be seen in more frequent increases in GPU clock speeds and faster decreases to a lower level GPU clock speed. Throttling of the GPU clock speeds is similar to the changing of the CPU clock speeds based on CPU usage that users have been accustomed to for years in their PCs. If any of you notices a drop in GPU performance as a result of these changes, please let me know so that I can ask our software team to investigate your issue. I've mentioned one users complaint about it causing the fan to spin up and down on a laptop and software has agreed to make some changes to address this but this will likely not come until the September driver release. Also, the behavior The Hunter is seeing on his system after waking up from sleep is not expected behavior and we have not been able to reproduce it in house. We are getting further info from The Hunter.

Well I noticed that my 3D voltages went up, I had 988mv set on bios and it had been 988mv on afterburner but I noticed today, it's 1000mv and I thought it has to be some bug, or my afterburner set it's own voltages, after some time I still had the problem after flashing bios and resetting afterburner.

Now I see this and this explains it, so apparently my gpu is still 988mv but afterburner shows 1000mv, and there is no other possibility.

Lol um....... can't tell if your being serious. No actually 280 allows me to overclock higher without modding my bios. Bashing 590 achieve what ? This effects all cards.

No difference between BETA drivers and WHQL. With beta you just get an unsigned driver notification.
