What exactly works best for removing TIM from CPU and HS?

I referred to a guide where it just said 90% alcohol... but I went to walgreens and there's like a ton of choices lol.... rubbing alcohol, isopropyl alcohol antiseptic...

which one do you guys pick? They were all like 2-5 bucks so I don't want to spend more than 5 bucks for something I'll use maybe once or twice.

also for i3 2100 + stock cooler I just make a small line on middle of cpu right? that's what my arctic silver 5 guide says lol.

Isopropyl Alcohol is what most people use. 90% is fine.

Edit: Oops, didn't see the last bit of your post. A small blob of paste is best for a stock cooler, but a line is probably sufficient too.

I use isopropyl alcohol and a coffee filter.... >90% the coffee filter doesn't leave lint or particles behind like a tissue would.
Hope this helps

Not sure about the antiseptic bit to be honest. Try to find something that just says Isopropyl Alcohol. Check my previous post for the line method.

The stock heatsink should have stuff pre-applied. You can remove it and put your own on if you wish. And no, the stock cooler isn't a heat pipe cooler.

Coffee filters are super cheap if you want to go and buy some. If not, you can use a Q-Tip. If you dip it in the alcohol, it shouldn't leave any lint behind.

^ exactly this. works perfectly and even though it seems small you only use some drops at a time. I must have re-seated or changed my cooler a total of 15 times and still more than half of the bottles are left. I do recommend it although im sure that it contains the same 90% alcohol you can find anywhere else.
Make sure you DO use the lint free cloth so you dont leave any residues. that affects temps.
