Screwed Over By Dell - Page 4

first things first... alienware m17x doesnt even have i7 2920... sager does

going to 16gb ram is a 360 dollars upgrade... compared to 245 with sager.

600 bucks for 256gb SSD? 520 dollars gets you 300gb SSD from sager...

and only gtx 460m and no option to upgrade? that's funny cuz you can get gtx 580m from sager... and standard is gtx 560m

no offense but i have friends who own multiple of these laptops (and they get them for free from work.. i have one friend who's lead graphics designer for a animation company and they have to travel to shows, etc and they take like 20 alienwares or sagers with them)....

the sager system with same specs comes out to about 300 bucks cheaper... and for 3000 bucks you can get a gtx 580m where as you can't even do that with alienware.

idk but to me it seems like alienwares are like apple laptops where you pay more to get average performance.

Buying a laptop that expensive is stupid IMO. Laptops get out-dated, and then something that was top-of-the-line one year, sucks the next.

Thats why its better to build a good desktop for 1500, that will kick that laptops a**, and get a 500 dollar laptop, that you wont mind as much if you see its age or not.

$2200 for dual 6990Ms. Not a 460

I don't get why everyone is dissing on something he obviously really wants. This thread isn't about bashing his choice of a laptop, it's about Dell's lack of good customer service. I'm sure when posting this he was hoping for some support and not a bunch of people throwing "Get this, it's better" at him.

I had the same thing happen to me with cellphones - phones arrived while we were out of town, I told FedEx to hold them, they didn't hold them and sent them back to Verizon. Had to wait another week. I actually ended up asking the same questions you did - "why can't I go get it?" etc. I got a $20 gift certificate out of FedEx for my trouble though (since it was their fault, not verizon's). Sucks dude, I know exactly how you feel. Those big companies can screw you seven different ways and there is pretty much nothing you can do. But if you toe the line just once, they try to nail you. These one way contract make me rage so hard.

Sager, dell are *******, had to call 7 times to get them to stop calling my house asking me if my headset was working and if I liked it or not... also had tons of problems with my laptop XPS 1730, cards kept overheating and failing and basically got told I was not using my laptop properly? I am sorry I gamed on my laptop with SLI GPU's and a physx card on top of that? You will never get a deal I am amazed you even got the shipping sped up must have took 20+ calls and hours of your time.

It's an M18x. Not 17x.

3,000 bucks for a GTX580M?
I did 2,000 bucks for dual 6990Ms in Alienware. Thats the equivalent of 2 GTX580Ms and more.

Not to mention the Sager can't be on a battery. You must plug it in.

The problem with that is, I already have a desktop
I agree that these laptops aren't too necessary but when I'm on the go I like having games and stuff available to me. Especially processing power too. Considering Im doing computer programming and game design, it'd be a relatively safe bet that I'd go with something like a gaming laptop. I'm also saying it's not that I can't go ASUS or MSI for this, but for the deal that I got through Dell it isn't worth it.

Dell does that, yes. But it doesn't mean you have to buy that. You can go for the regular stuff, and then upgrade yourself. Thats what Im doing with the RAM in my M18x if I ever get it at this rate.
Or you could finagle with a Dell rep. The prices on their site are not final. Every price listed, every part, can be obtained for cheaper.

I wish that was the case with mine. Sadly, Fedex said they have to go by what Dell says. If it was Fed Ex's fault, I'd be in the car on the way there
