Question about Accelero XTREME Plus

Thread Starter
I hear that the thermal adhesive for the memory and voltage regulator heatsinks is permanent. Could i substitute it with thermal adhesive tape? If yes is the answer. Which brand of adhesive tape would you recommend that i get?

Thanks.

No it is not permanant, just heat the card up good to soften the adhesive and use slow steady pressure, with a gentle twist.

Something like this would work as a replacement http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=22980

Good luck

Look at my system. As I already own one. The adhesive for the ram module dont stick too well. If you pull off the plastic cover to fast, you can peel off the glue with it and away from the pad.
As for the voltage regulators, they started to come off are a while, so I replaced it with the Thermaltake VRM-R3. Sometimes they fall off, and needs to be reapplied.

Now it depends on the kit you buy for your card. The newer versions of the AC Extreme dont come with all the ram/voltage parts, there sold separately. Which can bring the cost to about $100.

Recommend me a better thermal adhesive then. That's the whole point of this thread.

I've used sekisui 5760 anf shin etsu thermal adhesive.
I got mine of ebay, as only place that had at the time.

Might just need it for the ram only. Good price, good find. Try with what it comes with, if you find it dont work well, then you can buy thermal adhesive.

I have not used it myself, but it comes highly recommended.

Quote from link in my last post "This is the same high quality tape used by Swiftech and Enzotech and other major companies for adhesion of ram sinks, mosfets and other heatsinks used in air and water cooling of computer hardware."

I have 2 Twin Turbo's and did not have any trouble using the stock tape that is on the sinks, just warm up the sinks before you install them.(softens the adhesive)

Good luck

I have twin turbo and reapplied mx2 on it and temps on 6950 1gb went from 80's to 60's so you should see good results from the extreme. I thought there was too much TIM pre applied. The vrm sinks stuck well using a rubber on the chips first but then I realised I didn't need them as wasn't enough clearance 
