Yesterday we reported that Diablo 3 will let you buy and sell items for real money. During the event, the inevitable question about gold farmers came up: doesn’t this just make it safer and easier for them?

Executive producer Rob Pardo replied: “Theoretically that’s true, but I mean there’s really nothing… what’s the difference between a player that plays the game a lot and a gold farmer? I mean they’re really doing the same activity.â€

Back when I played wow in college, I do recall times where I farmed elementals for so long that I felt the urge to ni hao a few folks and perhaps create a troll rogue named huieyanguiling

Translation: "Yes we know we're encouraging gold farming sweatshops, but we don't care. All your money are belong to us."

Seriously, that's pretty much exactly what he's saying. "Yes we know the problem exists. We're cool with it. Our games are awesome. Buy them."

You forgot to add the "And if you don't buy our games, we will find you."

But what exactly can they do to prevent gold farming? Nothing.

I agree with him, it's set up so we can play the game in different way, unfortunately gold farming is one of those ways.

I enjoy the story line, levelling and collecting awesome equipment for my specialist, others enjoy repetitive tasks like collecting digital gold. Let them be, who are you to judge how others play the game within the confines of the policy and design.

It sucks, but at least in Diablo III it's not gonna be like MMOs where the Farmers will disrupt your gameplay and make it lame. You get to play by yourself or with friends with no one else there bothering you. Sure, the Auction House items will probably be controlled by the Farmers, but you don't really need to take part of that right?

Not saying I'm for it, but at least there's a way to not deal with it kind of.

anyone who ever played D2 for a long time know there are millions of sites that sell runes and duped items or forums where ppl use real money. i think blizzard is doing us good by implementing this. not only will be be assured the items are legit but the pricing will be heavily influenced by the players. if more chinese farmers farm the cheaper the price will get. i mean anyone with a full time job that doesnt have time to play as often wouldnt mind paying a dollar or 2 for a rune with less than 1% chance of dropping to perfect a current pvp build or some thing of that sort. so i dont know why there is all the rage. people who have time can use that time to make money. people who dont have time cause they are making money dont need to waste their time farming baal over and over again or doing pindle runs (example) and can enjoy the more fun aspects of diablo (PVP). but hey if farming is your thing you can do that too and make some money.
