Can anyone build me a whole system under 500?

It will be meant for office use, And this is the tower only. Monitor, Keyboard, Etc already have. It will need Windows 7, so you might as well scratch that and hit it to 400 for the parts.

The only thing I have is the video card. Its a 7300 LE, which is perfectly fine for office use.

$500 gives you a load of options.

Here's something based on an earlier suggestion, AM3+ platform:
Phenom II x4 925 OEM + 92mm basic cooler - $95 shipped
ASUS M5A97 - $90 shipped
2x4GB DDR3-1600 - $50 shipped (Shellshocker deal)

- $40 shipped (good sleek office look)
Rosewill RG430 - $30 shipped after promo
- $60 shipped [Amazon]
22X DVD burner - $19 shipped
Windows 7 x64 Home Premium - $85 shipped [see link]
Superbiiz promo code ABCDEFG - 10% ($9) off
Newegg new customer promo code NEWCUSTOMER10 - $10 off
$450 shipped

Probably *slightly* overkill but will take on any office task within budget (with room to spare), uses quality parts and it is very upgradeable. It's likely that you would get by with something even cheaper. I may also recommend a better GPU if you are to take advantage of any GPU acceleration in office apps such as Excel 2010, for it may be more efficient with a better GPU; you've got an extra $50 for that.

You may also like the new AMD APU platform, touted for fairly decent performance with low power consumption and decent cost.

i5-2300 $180
P67 Pro3 $110
WD Caviar Blue 500GB 7200 $40
4GB RAM $25
CX430 PSU - $45-50

Those are the basics. Work from there!

Thanks. The mods always give the best solutions. Though ill probably go for an Athlon x3 if I consider getting a newer GPU.

That... is not true. Mods are mods not because of advice skills.

Here's a budget build I came up with:

AMD Athlon II X2 260 + BIOSTAR A880G+ - $105
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR 1333 CL9 - $27
WD Caviar Blue 500GB - $40
Antec EarthWatts Green EA-430D - $44
NZXT Source 210 - $40
Samsung DVD Burner - $18
Total: $274.93

Add another $85 for Windows 7 if you buy it from the place matroska suggested (Never heard of the site), or $95 for Windows 7 SP1 from Amazon here:

- $95

If you are a student (high school or college) or if you have a family member or friend who is, you can get Windows 7 Professional for $30 here:
Windows 7 Professional for Students - $30

Dual core clocked at 3.2 Ghz (You can overclock it to 3.6 on stock cooler at stock voltage, you should be able to get to 3.8 at 1.375v with the stock cooler and stuff have decent temps), 4GB memory, and a 500 GB hard drive. The motherboard comes with a 4250 clocked at 560, you can overclock that to at least 700 at stock voltage fully stable. Nice, sleek, office like case and a high quality, efficient power supply.

For an office machine you don't need anything else, even this build is overkill for web browsing, movies, office, music, ect.

Low power and newer tech for under 430.00. you can throw a 120mm fan in the mix and still stay under 450
