until high speed becomes more available these online solutions i.e. streaming, cloud, digital downloads won't replace the optical media for a long while.

For someone who does a lot of building and repairing,an optical drive is still a necessity,at least too make some things easier.

My kids use them quite often for burning music,but they have started watching tv shows and movies with usb drives.

if BD-R discs came way down in price, I could see me using them...but right now, there's nothing better than 2tb drives for storage...which is all I ever used opticals for in the past.
