If your watercooling a gfx, does it matter....

Hi

Question is, if you are watercooling a card. Does it matter what manufacturer you buy e.g. msi, gigabyte, zotex etc.

I am looking to get a GTX460 and was set on the 460. Evga offer two versions of the card that I would be interested in SC and SSC. I can get the MSI one for cheaper so is the only difference the coolers?

Thanks

I know EVGA warranty will still be good with a waterblock installed, dunno about anyone else but you might want to look into that.

different manufacturers use different parts (ram chips, vrm's etc.) so that can effect, to a small extent, overclocking capabilities and reliability. I had been a loyal msi user for over a decade but i have had 3 msi video cards go bad in the last 2 years so I made the switch to evga and so far so good.

always go for the reference model.
gpu only blocks suck
it doesnt really matter about how overclocked the companies card is anyway,as you can pretty much guarantee you could do a better job yourself without paying the premium.
my first gtx 470 done 800/1600/1800 on air (RIP dead hot card)
the second and third ones do 900/1800/1600 under liquid cooling.
I could go further but they are non ref models so the ram/vregs arent enjoying the benefits of liquid flavoured cooling.
Reference models FTW!

They do to a certain extent I believe. Different manufacturers make use of different capacitors, stock clocks, ram chips, vrms. Btw, are you really planning on watercooling a GTX 460? I don't really see the point tbh. GTX 480/580/6970, yes but a GTX 460? seems like a waste of effort to watercool it with games getting more and more demanding.

It's all I can afford right now and I'm doing the watercooling for the challenge and for the noise reduction. Once it is all setup, I can always replace the card.

^^ Yeah, just buy ref. model and put some heatsink on vrm.
460GTX overclocks prettey well on air.

@t00sl0w

I am in England-did you find any for over here?

I'm struggling to find one and when I think I do it is more expensive than the SSC version.
