ICH9 + Rapid Storage Technology = ?

Hey guys! Got a question. I've got Gigabyte GA-P35-S3G mobo at home which is ICH9 chipset. I was thinking I should have no problem installing Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (10.6.0.1022). But it says that it doesn't meet system requirements. I've enabled AHCI in BIOS: in front of "SATA AHCI Mode" I've got "Enabled".

So, can someone say if I should give up trying? Does ICH9 not support RST? frown.gif Is there a point trying older Matrix Storage?

In Device Manager I've got "Intel(R) ICH9 Family 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller - 2923" under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. So I guess I've got the AHCI enabled.

Ah, and if this helps, the HDD is connected to Port0.

Cheers

Let's try this one instead:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19607

It's version 10.1.0.1008.

However, based on the fact that it says "Intel(R) ICH9 Family 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller - 2923" in Device Manager, I want you to check something:

Double-click that entry in Device Manager. Choose the Driver tab. What is the driver version you see, and who is the "Driver Provider"?

Thanks for a quick response, TwoCables. I was starting to get desperate about this little inconvenience. Under driver it says Intel is the provider and Version is 7.0.0.1013. The older RST gave the same result. I've found something that might help me http://www.overclock.net/intel-motherboards/269993-how-enable-ahci-ncq-windows-2k.html

However, it refers to the "registry fix" file which is no longer available and I can't figure what are these fixes exactly so that I could do them myself.

According to this guide, I somehow need to make Windows believe that I am in AHCI coz apparently Intel didn't support ICH9 back then.. Only ICH9R and ICH9M.

Pretty challenging.. I like that..

Edit: Similar or maybe even identical guide but more readable: http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardware/112584-how-enable-ahci-raid-mode-without-reinstalling-windows-p35-ich9-ich9r.html

Windows 7 64x

All I wanna do is istall Intel RST but it won't let me despite the fact that the system is in AHCI already. It's just that RST doesn't work with ICH9 (without R or M in the end) and I want to find a way to trick the installer that I have the compatible chipset.

On the Gigabyte GA-P35-S3G?

I mean if so, then try this (I edited it a little bit):

[source]

Change from IDE to AHCI Mode after Installation

The detailed steps from Microsoft website are as follows:
 • Exit all Windows-based programs.
 • Press [Win] + R or take the RUN option from the start menu.
 • Now type regedit there and press Enter Key to open up the Registry Editor Window.
 • If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
 • Locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\msahci
 • In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
IDE%20to%20AHCI.jpg
 • In the Value data box, type 0 [3 is default], and then click OK.
IDE%20to%20AHCI%20modify.jpg
 • On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
 • Restart your computer
 • Go to BIOS and enable AHCI, Save & Reboot
 • Another restart will be required to finish the driver installation.

Alternatively

Just download this Reg File and double-click to implement AHCI on your Windows-based computer.
Just remember to do the BIOS switch as well when you reboot.

Thanks for that but I've already done a long time ago. It's AHCI in BIOS but it still won't recognize that it's in AHCI coz of the older ICH9 chipset. I think I might have some progress here soon. Will report back ASAP.

Edit: Well, not much luck after all. I simply force installed the ICH9R drivers and at least now my HDD disappeared from "Safely Remove" thingie in taskbar but Intel RST still won't install, the Control Center I mean.

Intel's RST supports the P35 and it supports ICH9. So, I don't understand what's going on here.

Can you change "SATA Port0-3 Native Mode" to Enabled and then see if it makes any difference? After enabling it, I recommend trying 10.1.0.1008 again.

Uhm. You *did* install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 / 4.0 on your machine, right? smile.gif

I have Intel RST running on a Dell Latitude E630 with Intel ICH8M/EM controller... so it's not a version thing...
