White liquid electrical tape. Put it on after you've screwed on your barbs/compressions. It'll peel right off in one layer if you apply it thick enough.
I know a chap, that had incompatibility problem afterwards. Luckily he got it replaced as he told me.
i would not bother with spray painting unless you are a handy man
