new build

alright guys so i finally decided to upgrade a little bit from my sig rig to the following.

Core 2 duo 6600
4GB of 5300 memory
Geforce 8500GT 512mb GPU.

now i am fairly new to the intel world in the sense of owning one lol, how are the temps supposed to be for these CPU's. currently i know my ambient is a little high and due to 3 fan failures i need to replace some fans but they are sitting at about 55*C for both cores at moderate load. does that seem about right for it?

also ended up rescuing a perfectly good Asus N70SV from recycling. thing is an amazing laptop.

Core 2 Duo
4gb of ram
1Gb cuda GPU

plays starcraft 2 beautifully

edit *** system specs have changed again lol see last post for screen shot

edit#2 - finally found my adapter for my Kama Cross CPU cooler for the 775 socket and swapped over the HSF, dropped my idle temps to around 40* and after running 3dmark03 temps were around 44* after it was done and dropped quickly back down to idle temps.

You could get much more value using other, better components. Give us a budget to work within.

no i already have the system put together lol. i'm not too worried about the latest and greatest, it was time for a bit of an upgrade and everything i have was given to me for free so the price was right. i will however be upgrading the video card in the next few weeks to something much better

What you call an upgrade is some junk you probably got from friends or something. for 250 dollars you could get ur rig to work 2, maybe 3, times as fast as it is now.

also why a 600 watt psu? your system would work with a 300 watt psu.

but yeah, if your not the gaming type and you just want to surf the internet and maybe play a low res vid on youtube sometimes... then it would work for you.

Still the hardware is a "little" bit outdated.

Oh, i see. Well first off, congrats, my core2 processor was pretty amazing, i had a 9550 that ran easily with phenom II X4s, especially for its age. Keep in mind that these intel processors can sustain more heat than the AMDs, hell, I'd run it up to 70-75 without a second thought. Run prime 95 and give us some full load temps.

actually its all other people's recycled stuff. and this is the best i can do at the moment since i'm still recovering from being laid off. and to me free is better then $250 and its better then what i had.

and for the record i work as a computer tech, but sadly our clients don't really care about OC'ing or anything like that so i never get to do anything fun

and ya i'll run prime tonight and let ya know how it goes.

got my answer for what i was looking for and people can hate all they want but at the moment i can't afford anything better and i'm happy with it. of course i would love to get my rig up to atleast an i5 with 16gb of ram and it will come eventually just not right now.
