But it's a bit of both really. Blizzard manage to add tons of "content" to their games - without really adding anything at all. The design, art, content, balance, etc development teams have been slashed down drastically over the years because new things are extremely easy and efficient to design and release, the game engine has remained the same.
Class balance tweaks (tweaks, not revamps) happen once every 3-6 months instead of every 4-6 weeks like they did in WotLK.
Read the patch notes for 4.3 - so far Zarhym (community developer) has given multiple replies, all of which have confused/infuriated people even more and none have justified making the playerbase wait almost 8 months
to see such basic tweaks being made to almost-dead talent trees that needed them long ago.
But I don't BLAME Blizzard for cutting costs, re-hashing content and caring less about class balance - if I was in their shoes, I would do exactly the same thing. Millions of people will continue to pay as long as Blizzard keep throwing them a bone once every few months - it's easy money in the pocket, why not do it?
But that's from the company's perspective, not the player's perspective. From a player's perspective I would much rather try something brand new like GW2 that are trying a very fresh approach to MMO's. I completely skipped WAR, LotRO, Aion, Rift, etc because none of them did a proper job of delivering a fun and different MMO experience (if there is such a thing).Edited by Tippy - 10/21/11 at 3:40pm
