Need Game Recommendations (similar to Mass Effect)

Alright, so I am looking for some game recommendations. And in particular I have been looking for games that strike a cord of similarity with the Mass Effect series.

I own Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls, Bioshock, KOTOR, and Fallout 3 before I get those as recommendations.

Let me say what I really liked about Mass Effect 2 to try and get some recommendations. It had good acting, characters had development and decent emotion and detail. The unique blend between RPG, Action, and Shooter elements were very nicely done. There weren't many spamming moments with enemies. You actually got to see the character you played as in the cutscenes and interactions with other characters. Characters seemed fleshed out and individual personalities. I enjoyed the ambiance and environment. The overall story is nice. Mechanics are decent. Love the squad based action. It makes little sense to me that one would not have some level of help. Reminds me in the movies when you know everyone but the main character and perhaps the love interest live. So the fact you make connections and have squad members that assist makes sense in such a large scale universe. The graphics were great. Not a fan of a game if I cannot get past the fact the graphics are not believable (esp. in this day and age). Last, but not least I like good pacing and felt Mass Effect 2 had this.

Not looking to play any mediocre game. I can tell you that I have played the Demo for Dragon Age 2 and I thought the acting was flat, graphics were only alright, and the characters didn't seem to have much individuality amongst them. I like games that give a character a strong or convincing performance like Mass Effect, Alan Wake, God of War 3, and other well done characters. I am still going to give Dragon Age a go for a few hours, but not sure if it is my cup of tea. Feels a bit clunky, enemy spam, etc. Elder Scrolls seems a bit too open to me, a bit too complicated at times, and very easy to die, esp. earlier on. Also, many areas look similar and similar enemies. Fallout seemed a bit too unrealistic to me. If I take a shotgun (whether leveled up or not) and shoot a regular human guy in the face or dog and they don't die then that is an element of a poor excuse that I need to level up my shotgun for what it should do on a normal level. Bioshock is decent, but a little claustrophobic with not much interaction with other people in the game. KOTOR may be a little too old in graphics for me to get into.

One game I own that might be nice is The Witcher, but I have yet to really take a look at it.

Another game coming out soon that could be right up my alley with the theme, ambiance, mix of RPG/action, etc. is Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Any confirmations, advice, suggestions, etc. would be nice. Going through Mass Effect 2 withdraw and am now spoiled. LOL.

Dark Souls is coming out soon, but you can pick up Demon Souls for ~$20. From Dust looks promising as well. It was supposed to release the 27th, but got pushed back to Aug 13th.

Bioshock. It isn't squad based, but it's an FPS/RPG with very fun gameplay, quite good graphics, and an AMAZING story. If you like it, Bioshock 2 is a nice sequel. Overall the story isn't quite as "tight" but the combat is even more visceral and fun.

I own Demon's Souls and it is one of those frustratingly hard hack and slash games with few save points. Almost like a hard platformer. Hate those kind of games. Plus the story/character depth is only so-so. I also hate farming.

I state in my original post that I own Bioshock. And while I liked it for what it was it is not the same as Mass Effect 2 in many ways. However, I do like the Bioshock series. I should mention that I played and enjoyed Batman: Arkham Asylum sense it is not too far of a logical leap from Bioshock.

My suggestions don't really relate to ME2 at all but here we go...

I'm going to say Just Cause 2 but I bet you already have that.

I would also like to suggest Terraria, I would never have tried it but I picked it up on a pricing error during steam sale and I was hooked and I play the same types of games as you. $10 for a game that's worth a couple weeks of play and the devs are still pretty active seems like a good deal to me.

I own too many games to list (seriously, my STEAM handle is RoddimusPrime, check it out.. and that does not include console games or the few non steam games I have), but was instantly sucked into the Mass Effect Universe... lol, but I do have some games I could play. Or at least try. I do own both Terraria and Just Cause 2 so I think I will give those a shot at least. And I own the Witcher as well. So I am sure between checking out those games it will keep me busy for a bit. Thanks!

This might be stretching it a bit but have you check out the STALKER series?

Can't go wrong with STALKER. Along the same lines, Metro 2033 is a blast.

Those games don't screw around, man. Don't expect to be babied like all these new main-stream games.

As the old saying goes; In Russia, you don't play games. Games play you!

If you're saying you haven't given Dragon Age: Origins a go, then seriously... Do your self the favour and bite into it.
Took me some time to meld with it as well after coming from Mass Effect, but when you do, you'll be glad.

It has excellent character development and the story really engages you and makes you feel like you're being pulled into an epic finale.

Do not touch DA2. Your assumptions on the demo were perfectly valid. It only gets worse in full version.
