Question about the AX1200 and is it enough

So im thinking of doing some upgrades to my computer and a power supply upgrade will be needed and the AX1200 is my prime choice as ive been happy with my AX850.

On my AX850 it has 4 pcie connectors and it says on their site 2 EPS connectors but what i found was that if im using all 4 pcie connectors and i cant use both EPS connectors at the same time because the second EPS plug uses the same connector as the PCIE ones. SO the AX1200 is listed with 6 PCIE and 2 EPS, can i run ALL of those at the same time?

Next is the issue of power, some of you may have seen what my 6970s draw with the power cap at +20% and overvolted in phadrus's thread.

I plan on getting an SR-2 and 2x 6 core Xeon chips, i will be adding a third 6970 and POSSIBLY a 4th 6970. So im wondering if 1200w is enough based on the fact that i maxed my AX850 with my current system.

i can tell you its enough for 2x 6990s oced to 1030/1500 and a 2600k oced to 5600mhz

im getting second thoughts about that setup....i think you'll need 1350w for that IMO....or better yet,let our resident PSU editor answer that question for you.

Yeah i hope the guru's chime in the way i look at it,

with the data i gathered with my current setup full load i pulled about 1kw at the wall which is about the max of my AX850 or about ~850

So take 850 and add a second cpu (about 150w?) so 1000w, then add another 6970 (250w?) thats about 1200w so if i went to add a 4th it would really worry me at that point

The AX1200 and most other 1200W+ PSUs can pull duty as a 1400-1600W unit as well, depending on how the protections are configured. With such high end designs the wattage rating isn't so much a measure of the PSU's maximum capabilities, but what wattage the marketing and sales boys think has the most demand.

so even if i went 4 way taking into considering my other data, i should be ok?

Take a look at this psu and see what you think. It also has 8 pci-e connectors.

Dont get that overpriced and overhyped corsair crap, if you dont want those 3 graphic card of you to blew up then i suggest getting another brand like antec coolermaster
