I need advice about a HD 6850 setup

Thread Starter
I'm planning to purchase a Dell U3011 and I was wondering if my HD 6850 card would be able to handle the gaming in that monitor size. Any suggestions will help me in my decision.

Thanks

You'll be much better off with a 2GB card at that resolution - either the 6950 or the 6970.

If you can't swing that, the 6850 will fare decently, but you may have to turn down some settings to compensate for the higher resolution.

Would a HD 6850 crossfire setup help for that resolution?

You'll be vram choked to death nevermind not having enough horsepower with a 6850. Seriously, why'd you spend $1200-1300 or planning to on that display and are skimping on the vid card to run it?

Yes; that's another option. You don't gain any VRAM, but that setup would outperform the others in most games.

Would it make more sense to get an eyefinity setup than a 30 inch monitor? Sorry for noob questions.

That comes down to personal preference. A lot of games don't properly support Eyefinity, and VRAM is needed even moreso with an Eyefinity setup.

You're vram choke will get worse since you'll have an even higher vram requirement. You're tackling the problem from the wrong angle. Get a card with more vram.

I prefer eyefinity to large screens.. you see so much more. The sad thing is i dont have enough money to upgrade from my 6850.

Honestly if you are going to get an eyefinity setup or 1600p monitor, you want 2GBs of VRAM.

I have to turn the settings way down in games like dirt 3 and crysis warhead. I cant even run crysis 2 with the latest patch.

Id say youd be better to save for a 6950 if you want that type of resolution.

So with the 6950 it would solve all my problems concerning gaming in that higher resolution, I guess I have to sell my 6850. Thank you guys for all the great suggestions.
