Windows 7 SP1 x64 :: Some Files Do Not Show Up in Windows Explorer In Some Cases

Thread Starter
I'm having a really strange issue with Windows 7. If I use Windows Explorer to browse my documents folder, only 53 files show up. However, if I select a file for upload through Firefox, it shows 63 files. I've been having a lot of strange issues like this on other areas of my drive as well. WinRar can extract some files, but the folder won't show up in Explorer. I try to extract them again, and WinRar asks me if I want to overwrite the files. Clearly, in both cases, the files exist, but why is this happening? Folder options are set to show all hidden files as well as OS files.

I'm about to run chkdsk. I've never seen anything like this before. I can change folder views all I want, but it won't display all of my files. This is really annoying.

I've attached a screenshot that should help clarify what's going on.

Any ideas? Any help is appreciated.

Open an explorer window -> organize -> folder and search options

Select the second tab 'view' and select 'show hidden files, folders or drives'

That should do it

That setting has already been enabled. That's what I don't understand. I ran chkdsk as well, and it found no problems. Any other suggestions I could try?

It is doubtful that it is a HDD problem. Does it happen only with winrar and uploads?

I can't see the files in Explorer. I was able to see them when I tried uploading a file using Firefox, but now I can't see them either via the upload. It's like after I restarted my computer, it doesn't show up at all. I know the files are still there... If I try to save a document with the same name, it tells me.

I'm stumped on this one. Perhaps it's a bug that Windows Updates would address? I guess I better try that first.

I have a SSD from Kingston as the hard drive of my laptop.

You tried copying them out to another folder and see if the files still do the same thing? It may be some kind of folder permission thing or something. Try copying them out to some random place in another folder and see what they do. Not to leave them there, just to see if you still have the problem with them in the new place on the HDD. Have a feeling it is a permissions thing.
