I get your point, but, it's flawed.
For starters, that hardly makes it "common". You're going to a place for gamers to list their proudest specific thing, it might appear common in the context of only that forum and the people that visit it, but, it hardly makes it "common" out of a majority of gamers that have at least 1 platinum trophy.
That's like going to a comic book convention and since a majority of people there like the same comic that therefore means a majority of everyone everywhere that likes comic books reads that particular comic and has done it in a special way.
That's like going to a car show and since a majority of people there like the same car that therefore means a majority of everyone everywhere that likes cars has that particular car with a special mod.
You also have to analyze the very median you're using to come to this "conclusion". Seeing some people with something like that really doesn't prove it's common, but, this is relative to what you define common to be.
I can easily turn right around and say that it's likely more people that tried DS rage quite before finishing the first level than people that have Platinum, and your counter argument would be that we usually only hear about the people that ragequit, not people that continued playing, and even the ones that earned platinum.
My point being, there's no common basis for either comment, and your definition of common likely differs, and it's also tainted since you're basing it off people that post on a forum, that hardly sums up a majority of most gamers/people that have at least 1 platinum trophy.
There's also another variable, people that take the time to platinum a game are likely significantly more devoted to doing it than people who don't, also have to rule out the obligatory games that give you 100% completion simply for completing the game, there are a few on the 360 like that, I 'm sure there are a few on the PS3 like that. So, those have to be ruled out as people who didn't really "go" for platinum in any game.
, If you could somehow survey every single person that has earned at least 1 platinum trophy, then you could actually see whether or not it was "common", you still need to define your relative definition of common though.
I'll agree to it being less rare than we'd think it would be though. But, at the same time it's still likely incredibly rare compared to people that want it and don't have it *that combines a bunch of different variables/options together*.Edited by Ascii Aficionado - 8/30/11 at 9:32pm
