2600K really worth 35$ more?

Thread Starter
So I recently stumbled on the fact that the 2600K and the 2600 are identical except for the unlocked multiplier in the 2600K.

Theres a bit of a sale going for the 2600 right now which makes it 279.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115071

The 2600K is 35 bucks extra.

Is this unlocked multiplier gonna be totally worth the 35 bones?

I'm no competitive overclocker. I'm just a humble music producer / visual effects artist.

If you don't like overclocking then i7 2600 is perfect for you, however I feel that you should get i5 2500k,you can easily overclock that and thus an oc i5 2500k will destroy a stock i7 2600.
Hope this helps.

Are you OC'ing or not. What do you want this chip to do?

Always get the 2500K for gaming and the 2600K for video editing/photoshop, etc...
Non-K version is really just a waste. Even if you dont OC, you might want to try it later.

you can easily add a 1Ghz overclock on the unlocked version with a cheap cooling solution and that's pretty significant.

I mean if you're going to spend $300 on a chip, an extra $30 for one that can vastly outperform it is a no brainier.

Agreed, even if you don't want to do it now, you may get the bug enough to add a decent cooler and push a few hundred MHz on top. It's worth it.

definitely worth the 35 bucks over the non overclockable 2600.. even if you dont have any experience in OCing, there's this preset OC settings in bios for every mobos out there that can help make your system overclocked by just selecting your desired OC. Give it a try.. It'll for sure boost your work with music conversion etc etc.
