Help me pick a headset.

So I was planning on picking up some JVC rx-700's (that's what everyone seems to recommend) but then I saw some pioneer se-m290 on ebay for $24.99. Now I don't know which to choose.

I was also eyeballing the rx-900 but is it really worth the extra money?

Also, he main reason why the se-m290 caught my eye is its profile. They're much sleeker looking as well as slimmer so I could wear them in public. But as for sound quality, I have no idea if they are good or not.

Oh and one more thing, will a sound card make a huge difference? I have a BIOSTAR TP67XE with its onboard THX sound and it seems decents lol. I'm not a huge audiophile but I do enjoy quality sound.

At that price range, all I would look for is comfort and profile. Doubt sound quality really matters if you plan to get headsets for that price. but to answer your ques, JVC is of better quality (though I doubt there is much of a diff)

If you can, an RX-700 with a Xonar DG sound card should be slightly more expensive than an RX-900, but will net you much better overall sound. Onboard sound just is... bad. An amazing source put through medium headphones will sound better than a crap source put through amazing headphones.

What are you looking to spend?

Your best bet is to get a headphone and use a clip on mic, reason is you get more for your money if you get a audiophile grade headphones and then that clip on mic. Then you would headset, as the headsets tend to be over price for what you get and you get less with a headset then you do headphone and mic combo.

Hmm I'm looking to spend around $40ish but if it's absolutely worth it a little more. Although I would prefer to save some money that's why that se-m290 caught my eye.

Does anyone know if the quality of sound is good or not?

Oh and this will be used a lot with an ipod.

the zalman clip on is a popular and great choice.

if you can't afford what you want now, save up for it. don't cheap out and get a headset, which will break in a few months
