Thread Starter
Greetings fellows.

I am just about to buy a 1TB hard drive for storage, speed doesnt matter much.
And also 2x 500Gb to use for Raid 0, speed matters.
I just want to know if there is anythign that I shouldnt get.
What are the best HDD´s today ?

Plz comment.

I would suggest the samsung F3s or the WD caviar blacks for the RAID array, and green for storage.

For RAID0 get enterprise level drives. Hitachi's 7K3000 and 5K3000 are the fastest 7200rpm and 5940rpm drives on the market right now.

There's lots of good HDDs available. But if you want the most performance for your money, you should probably be looking at F3 1TB's or Hitachi 1.5TB's. Then backup onto a 2TB Green drive.

Often you can get the two drives I listed for about $50 on sale. The F3 has been around longer, and has been proven to be quite reliable. The Hitachi may also be a winner, but it hasn't yet been proven.

I myself would go for WD Blacks, but that's because I'm in Canada - Samsung and Hitachi don't often have good sale prices up here, but WD constantly has great prices.

The Samsung Spinpoint F3's, WD Caviar blacks, And the Hitachi's suggested are pretty much as best as you can get on 7200rpm drives.

And of course Caviar green for storage
