Upgrading my Home Theater Audio - Page 3

sccr64472 & R3d T34rz Very well done. Have the proper home theater done correctly the first time, will give you much more better enjoyment.

If you got the money and space, then invest. If your like me, limited space and asshats neighbors in a apartment.
Then still invest in quality over anything else, but dont need to break the bank.

mine is in the bedroom. whenever i get a new place i'll definitely make sure to have a dedicated room

anyway back on topic:

I really recommend that the OP get a quality midrange AVR with preouts. It'll save you money in the long run if you decide to upgrade speakers and get ones that are more demanding (can just add external amps instead of buying a new receiver or pre/pro + amps). I'd also recommend just going with stereo for now (quality over quantity), but if you absolutely have to have surround, then get one of the Jamo or Polk systems linked previously. That deal on tigerdirect seems great for the money, though, and can always be put somewhere else as a secondary system in the future when you want something more capable

there's nothing backwards about it. a high quality stereo setup will blow away a low quality surround setup, but it's not like i said you had to go stereo.

After looking at the Onkyo/Jamo set from Tigerdirect, the speakers itself is there lower end line. Compared to those polks from Newegg (The cherry ones as stated from R3d T34rz) those are much higher.

Personally I really suggest you truly invest in those Polks and look at a good receiver from Onkyo.

This will cost you a little more in the long run, as speakers will always cost more than the receiver.
Newegg ONKYO TX-NR509 $279

With the Polk speakers
Polk Audio Monitor50 Series II x2 $160
Polk Audio CS1 Series II Center Channel Speaker $60
Polk Audio Monitor30 Series II Two-Way Bookshelf $90
NKYO TX-NR509 $270
Total is $590 as you already have a sub.

But if you really are on a budget, you cant really go wrong with ones from tigerdirect. Just I havent had a listen to those Jamo at all. The Polks I know the sound that comes from them, as I have Polks myself.
Onkyo TX-NR509 5.1 Channel A/V Receiver and Jamo S426HCS3 5pcs Home Theater Speaker System Bundle $420

I'm thinking I will end up going that route. Probably piece it together over a few months time.

That is the Onkyo I was originally looking at.

Which route is that. If you piece it one at time, will lose out on sales and could cost your a lot more over time.

nice recommendation! I just might jump on this soon!

I' not had time to read all the posts, so what i say might have been covered.. I'd defo recommend a good A/V receiver, if your receiver cant handle the latest codexs such as DolbyTrue HD then your speakers wont perform to their full. Also i added a 150W sub to my set-up and you wouldn't believe the improvement, so defo invest in a good sub.

Hope this helps!
